CarComplaints.com Notes: Buying the first model year of any vehicle is rarely a good idea. You become a guinea pig for the automaker and they are really not nice to guinea pigs.

The 2008 Enclave has a wide enough range of problems to issue a warning. There's transmission failure under 90k miles, new power steering units costing over $1,300, and enough engine complaints to NHTSA to scare anyone away.

I have had problems with this car from day one, I have spent over $5,000 in less than 6 months on all kinds of problem with this car. I had to replace the lift gate lock and shock, replace the intermediate shaft steering wheel, replace driver seat track. Then back in shop in less than a month to replace the steering column and intermediate shaft. Then a month later back in shop, replace the valve body and related part, replace XM radio system. In Nov. had to car back in shop to replace power steering pump, replace both inner and outer axle shafts. I believe I'm entitle to a refund or something from trouble vehicle has cost me. I holding on receipts of all repairs this vehicle has cost me.

Now that I've had to replace my entire transmission I am having to replace the front steering bearings. This is on a 2008 vehicle with pretty low mileage. I've had more problems with this vehicle than I have with my 1999 Infiniti with almost 200,000 miles on it. Piece of crap.

Since purchase, mid-way through turning I will feel and hear a click. Mechanics say it has to do with the angle at which the steering is joined at the pinion (?), that the problem is common and that replacement results in a temporary fix. With the cover removed from the underside of the steering, you can see that the steering does not mate parallel.
