I've had to replace the driver's side headlight two times within a month or two. The last time was about two months ago..so far so good! Hopefully it won't happen again.

I bought this car Jan 2010 used and thought the problem was the result of lack of maintenance from the previous owner, but after researching online, this issue is common where water leaks into the headlight casing causing the signal light to burn out and the connections to corrode. I haven't fixed it yet, but will be tearing it apart to see if I could just replace the signal flasher. I will be updating if possible.

We bought this car used for our daughter to use while in college. So far, it has been a pretty good car with only one recall for power steering which was repaired. Soon after purchasing, we noticed condensation in the right headlight. Next, the turn signal bulbs burned out. When trying to pass inspection, our mechanic told us we needed to replace the bulb, but when he went in to do this, the wires and attachment that hold the bulb were corroded and the plastic casing that houses the headlight was so deteriorated, it was turning to powder. He said this was due to a leak in the headlight encasement. He called to try to get a replacement part to fix the corroded bulb attachment and was told they did not sell those separately, you had to purchase the entire headlight encasement at the tune of $300 before labor. Apparently, this has happened to more than our 2008 Cobalt because the dealer said they had plenty in stock because so many had been coming through that needed it replaced. Needless to say, that was out of our budget at the time, but the car would not pass inspection without replacing it, so we had to have it replaced. I think this should have been a safety recall, as mixing water and electrical wires and light bulbs, the last time I checked, could be a fire hazard. Anyone else having problems with their headlight encasement leaking?
