Date Complaint Filed: 12/01/2009 Component(s): ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Crash: NoFire: NoNumber of Injured: 0Number of Deaths: 0 Summary: We purchased a 2009 chevy cobalt for our son who is just learning to drive. while practicing parallel parking and the 3 point turn the steering locked up and was impossible to move. we took it into the dealer who said that this is a problem that could occur (and there was a bulletin issued by gm) because the power steering is run by computer and it could overheat which could happen when practicing parallel parking. however, there was nothing they can do to fix it. i do not find this an acceptable solution since my son is a first time driver and has not even taken his driving test yet. i would like to know if there are any options available. *tr

I have had a loss of steering 4 times and have had it fixed at dealer, the dealership has had recalls and options for buyout and have never informed us of them. The car is dangerous and should be scrapped, GM should be responsible for a replacement because this has been going on for years not to mention that my extended warranty has been paying for all the repair work and parts for General Motors vehicle that they have known about since 2004. Does anyone have any comments or direction in this situation? Contact me please, tdtravolina@yahoo.com
