CarComplaints.com Notes: Engines shouldn't need a new quart of oil every 500-1000 miles, but for thousands of Suburban owners that's exactly what's happening. Engine oil consumption on aluminum block engines with Active Fuel Management (AFM) is out of control and owners are left looking for answers.

The most likely culprit is an uncovered AFM valve which, in many cases, can be covered under warranty. The problem is the issues don't stop there and many owners have been told by GM just to buy a new engine. Take one guess who they want to pick up the tab.

A "check engine" icon appeared on the dash of the 2007 Suburban. On-Star could only identify it as an "Undefined Emission problem". Took it into the dealership where the vehicle was purchased and the connected it to the computer to identify the exact problem. They came to me and informed me that the gas tank vent assembly was bad and needed to be replaced. Even though it is an Emission component this was not covered under the Emission warranty.

I believe that the original vent assemblies installed on these vehicles must have been bad to start with since the repair includes the vent assembly and a wiring harness that must be replaced at the same time. When researching this on the internet this appears to be the fix to the problem but everyone I checked with states you must buy the wiring harness and a clip to to connect the vent assembly and wiring harness.

I figure the new vent assembly does not have a compatible wiring harness connection on it that would be a direct connection to the existing harness, so they are forcing you to buy this wiring harness to connect the new vent assembly to the existing wiring harness.

I have not decided it I will purchase off the internet and install myself for under $100.00 or pay the dealership the $275.00 they quoted to repair an item that should have been covered under the Emissions Warranty to begin with.
