GM used to be known for having bullet proof transmissions. Not anymore.

This is just the six speed tranny that is in millions of vehicles. It's not the newer 8, 9, or 10 speed transmissions that are made to get small car mpg. This type of failure at the rate GM is seeing them is not acceptable.

Traverse LS V6

When the transmission doesn't shift like it should the only way to make it stop is to pull over and stop the car. When I start driving again, it's fine. If I'm lucky it will happen when I'm coming up on a stop sign or stop light but most of the time I have to find a place to stop as soon as possible.

When you depend on a vehicle for business, household duties, and fun, you hope that it is dependable. So when you have an intermittent problem that reduces your faith in the Chevrolet brand that you've always depended on, it gets you wondering.

Feels like the car is stuck in a low gear, engine revs and RPMs raise, but will not switch gears.

Traverse LT 2 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 80,000 miles

The problem was recurring for more than year. The dealer could not find anything on at least three occasions. Finally they suggested a data recorder be connected to the computer. In June of 2014 the result was faulty Transmission Control Module. Dealer replaced under GM warranty.

After wondering what will happen next I am tired of all the issues with this vehicle and am trading it in on a 2014 Equinox.

Hopefully nothing will go wrong with this vehicle, but will take out extended warranty at about 35 K miles.
