I could not shift the vehicle out of park. I had to push some pink release button to get the gear shift to move. Now the piece that regulates the communication between the brake and shifter was found to be broken. It appears other Dodge Charger owners have had a similiar problem.
I own a 2007 Dodge Charger rt with a hemi. The gear shifter is stuck in park. I contacted the manufacturer and was told there is a recall for this problem on police cars but that my VIN number was not part of that recall. The manufacturer offered no assistance. The mileage is 88,125. It's funny I have the same problem that was found through a defect investigation conducted on more than 20,000 police cars. The problem was corrected in those vehicles and it should be fixed. The vehicles are built the same and I understand police cars need to be programmed differently with reinforced suspension and other features to do their jobs but its the same cable on my car that dislodges that's found on an officers car. 2007 Dodge Charger R/T was parked in driveway. Upon starting the vehicle, it would not shift out of park. The vehicle had to be towed to a repair center for diagnosis; however, it seems to be a common problem for Chargers. There was a recall done for 05-07 Charger/magnum/Chrysler 300 LX model vehicles, for an issue with the shift lever. Upon calling the Chrysler Corp. To see if the R/T model (with an upgraded engine size) would be covered under the recall, I was informed it was not. If the recall was on the base model, it should be recalled on all, as the basics of the car structure itself, and the basic parts used, would most likely be the same. If they admit to a defective part in the LX, do right by the customers, and allow the recall to encompass all models of the vehicle.
The transmission shifter interlock lever broke resulting in the inability to move the gear shift lever out of the "park" position. I see that other cars that are very similar to mine, if not the same car as mine, that have had this problem have had factory recalls on this...... 2005-2007 Dodge Charger, magnum and Chrysler 300.....but unfortunately mine doesn't and I don't know why.

2007 Dodge Charger was stuck in park. No other problems. Found out that Chrysler has a defective part in these cars called the transmission shifter interlock lever recalled on some models (notification code K39). However, the other Dodge Chargers are not covered under the recall even though it has the same defective part. Instead, they want to charge the consumer to fix the problem although it is well known that it is a manufacturing problem. (its a cheap plastic pink release button that goes out at any given time causing the car to be stuck in park) this is a widespread, well known, highly documented defected part that the recall only covered on few models not all models. This is a cheap and unethical move on Chrysler-Dodge's part to have the consumer bear the cost when it is not the consumer's problem. This needs to be recalled across the board on anyand all vehicles equipped with this cheap piece of plastic. Instead since my particular 2007 Dodge Charger is not included in the recall, I am left to pay roughly $500 to repair it. Really disheartening and pathetic when customers want to buy american but get this as quality!

My vehicle is stuck in park, turns out that the shift interlock or the "pink thingy" as most people know it as is a defective part on Dodge vehicles but there are no known recalls for this problem. The vehicle has 70,000 miles. After I took the cover of the shifter off, I notice that the only way to get it to drive is to push on the pink plastic and it will allow it to go on reverse, neutral, drive. I did some research online and read that alot of people are having this problem but Dodge is not fixing the problem. I contacted Dodge and was told that they could not help me.
Reverse went out in transmission. There was no warning of any sort. Had no idea that I even had any problems. Took vehicle to the dealership to be repaired under warranty. Was without my vehicle for almost a month while still having to make payments and find another way of getting around.vehicle was just over a year old. Got the vehicle back and the reverse went out in the transmission again as well as the rear main seal leaking. Took vehicle back to dealership for more repairs and was without my vehicle again for almost a month. Now, the motor is knocking and skipping and vehicle has less than 95,000 miles. These cars are lemons and I don't know how Chrysler corporation is getting away with this and I sure do not recommend anyone buying a Dodge. Wish I had never bought this vehicle and somebody needs to step up to the plate and make it right. Sad part is I am stuck with a vehicle that is going to need major engine repairs or engine replace and I still owe on the vehicle and of course there is no warranty left.
