I also have many crackes in the dash ,I booght the car brand new in 2002, in 03, i noticed the crackes. Today the back of the dash is taken out, it is in many pieces and was falling into the windshild vent holes. There is pieces still in there i cant get out or find. The front part of the dash is cracked in about 4 places i even have a big hole where the cracks meet. I think dodge should replace it. We did not pay all that money so we can have many problems. I realy wanted a ''FORD'' but my wife talked me into a dodge i will never buy a dodge again. Since the cracks are not the only problem with the truck. not to mention 3 recalls allready, 1 of which i still have to take care of.

I have a 2002 doge ram 1500 sport. About a year ago my wife and I were going down the road and she made the comment that I had a crack on the passenger side of the dash. Bull sh---T I said because she likes to mess with me and she knows how I am about my truck. Well I did and about 2 months later another and another. I have 6 big cracks now. I have bought a dash overlay off ebay for about 275.00 and have not put it on yet but will let you know how it goes! My advice to anyone going to buy a new truck is to buy a toyota they are more expensive but worth the money plus have an excellent resale value have you checked your dodge!!! Its like they say, you get what you pay for!!!!!!!! As far as a recall forget it if it doesn't endanger someone's life they are not going to do sh---t about it! This is all I have to say and do about it - you are not the only one that feels like you got the shaft!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So many stories I have read here are an exact duplicate of what has happened to my dash. Not only is the front cover nearest the window cracked in 6 places, the portion facing the cabin of the truck is now split in 2 places where the cracks run vertically. I read in a earlier post to contact Dodge at 1-800-992-1997. Dodge should be made to pay for the full cost of this repair. I know of no other car/truck ever made with a dash that literally disintegrated for absolutely no reason.

Dodge has known about the dash cracking in their trucks since 2000. A news station in Florida report the problem to Dodge. Dodge was going to send out a team to investigate and come up with a solution, that was 2 years ago. I like my dodge and have thought about purchasing a 2010, b ut I am not sure they have corrected the problem.

I bought the truck from a used lot, everything was perfect on it, and I did not notice the cracks in the dash, I called them up about a week later when I noticed them, they took it back and had it "fixed" they wrapped the dash in vinyl, it looks like sh*t and they wouldn't replace it. I finally went and bought the front piece for right under the windshield and replaced that for $200, while at the Dodge dealership I tried to get quotes on the rear part of the dash and at first I got $1200 just for parts, then when I asked about it again I was told all the parts are out of stock, discontinued, etc. My whole family has driven Dodge since I was young and I'm honestly considering a Chevy or Nissan as my next truck due to how f*cking annoying this problem is and how difficult it is to have it fixed, I just wish I would have known at the time that I first noticed it that it's a common problem.

Add my Dodge Ram dash problem to the list. What bothers me most is that only the top cover portion of the dash is cracked (section with the vent outlets), but replacing it is still over $500 through Dodge. After market parts are cheaper, but they don't have the grill section over the vent holes and those are broken on my vehicle. If anyone has a solution, please post it here.

cracks in dashboard cracks in dashboard cracks in dashboard

I own a 2002 dodge ram 1500 and I have been noticing that the dash has been cracking and then it began to crack more to the point of having no dash at all. I don't think this is just a cosmetic defect it is a safety issue. It doesn't take a hoard of inspectors to see how this can cause damage to occupants in the truck. Lets just forget about the safety issue for a second, after buying a dodge intrepid and have the motor fail at 60,000 and I said " I will never buy another dodge", but I gave dodge a second chance because I liked the look of the truck inside and out. With that said I don't mind replacing the control arms where the ball joints are welded in, at a cost of 600.00 dollars. Wish I would have looked at that too, but having to replace the dash is not justified as an expense that I should have to pay for. If I sold this truck to someone I know the first thing they would say, "that doesn't look safe and makes you wonder what else is unsafe with the truck." It does make you wonder about the rest of the truck, did they cut corners on other parts of the vehicle? Let me ask nhtsa when they get into theirs vehicles to go home after work and your dash started cracking, to the point of your speakers falling out when you hit the brakes would you feel safe. THAT'S MY STORY AND I AM STICKING TO IT

I lived in Hawaii for three years where the sun is hot all year long and never had this kind of problem. This is my first Dodge and I love this truck, and I keep my vehicles very clean and well maintained. But why should we have to pay to have these dashboards fixed when there are so many complaints. Dodge needs to step up to the plate and have these fixed before someone has a truck fire. I don't know if I will ever buy a Dodge again, it might have to be Chevy.

I called the dodge company and they told me to get an estimate because the cracked dashboard was a factory defect and they would fix it. when i called back with the estimate they told me they would pay for half. i told them its a factory defect and you will only pay half of two thousand dollars. so everyone who has dashboard problems you can call this number 800-992-1997 and talk to someone about getting your problem fixed. i guess they would rather be out a little money by paying half then by paying the full amount to have the dashboards in all the vehicles replaced. i am seeking advice before i take them up on there offer

Don't think I am going to spend $40,000 dollars on one of your new trucks, just to have the dash crack up in a few years. Dodge should replace these! I love my Dodge Ram 1500. Runs great! but I don't like it that every time I want to fix something, I am told it is unavailable or discontinued. Why is that? Why doesn't Dodge or Chrysler have spare parts for all makes and models. I can go on line and order a part for a 1972 Charger but can't for a 2002 Ram. I inquired, a year ago, about replacing the overhead sunglass compartment. The tab in which one depresses to open the compartment broke off, thus causing me aggravation since I am very particular about my truck. I was told then, I would have to replace the entire compartment. I opted to research someone on line and found one; however, it was the wrong size. I returned it to him and asked for the correct size and never heard from him so what did I do, glued the tab back together and I do not use the compartment. Frustrated I guess.

wow! I guess I'm not alone, my truck was only 4 years old ,always put a dash cover when parked, then I notice a 2 inch crack on right side of dash, in a matter of months this crack spread to like 4 large cracks, with a large chunk almost ready to fall in, the dealership won,t admit its a defect. I always thought since i bought the truck new from cerritos dodge in cerritos ca. that the dash was designed super cheap, and as for this dealership,5star,my ass, they totally suck! If dodge won't create a recall soon, I won't ever buy a dodge or chrysler vehicle again, that new toyota tundra looks better every day.

I love my Dodge. Take total pride in it over Ford, Chevy, Nissan, and everyone else. The only model truck that has ever looked good to me was an 02' Dodge Ram 1500. My reason for this is that all the models before and even the newer ones just don't have that same body style. The grills are either too boxy or slanted forward, the logo is in the center of the tail gate, and I could just go on for minutes on end about why I like my truck... Every Thursday, I detail my truck, and go night cruising on Friday and Saturday nights... Well, when I first bought the truck, I bought it from a mechanic that worked at the Dodge dealership, and he had taken complete care of it, and it only had 95,000 miles on it, which wasn't bad considering it was my first vehicle... I noticed a few cracks in the dash, but they were only hairline fractures, so I sucked it up and dealt with it for the time being... I went and bought not one, but two UV window guards, and double stacked them (knowing I wouldn't get a much better result) and left them in the window blocking all sunlight from hitting the dash... I would sit for minutes trying to make sure I had it covered perfect... Using them so much is why my visor is failing now from putting it down and up so much, now it just wants to stay down... I would even park facing West at night cause in the morning, the sun would rise in the East, and I wouldn't be up in time to turn it around... As of today, August 11, 2009, the dash has cracked all the way from the front left driver's side, right the the point above the gauges where the dash ends above the steering wheel... I don't want to sit here and have to fork out $1200 just to replace it with another dash that is going to end up with the same fate... I personally think that Dodge should have done a recall a LONG time ago and replaced them with ZERO service charge, cause customers don't sit here and pay their thousands upon thousands of hard earned cash for a vehicle with a dash that isn't going to last more than a few years... Yes, I could picture cracked dashes on vehicles that are in junk yards that aren't taken care of period and just rot in the sun and rain... But on vehicles owned by proud owners of a Dodge, that love their vehicle with a passion and take complete care of it, no... The government should force some kind of recall to be made...

Man i noticed a slight crack in my dash about a year ago and never really thought too terribly much of it then earlier this year my one crack turned into 5 different cracks across my dash!! 2 cracks are starting to form together so i have an awful feeling a huge chunk of my dash is gonna fall out. This is such bs cuz since dodge was such a reputible company i never expected to see such poor quality like that. I would say dodge should definatly replace them since its their fault for making it so cheaply...but we all know where dodge is headed right now so i'm not gonna hold my breath. Its just a really big disappoitment that they manufactured their vehicle like that. I'll never own another dodge after this...

This is absolutely ridiculous. Dodge boast a 5 Star Dealership, that is a crock. Obviously they do not care about it's customers, all they care about is selling vehicles. This is obviously a Dodge issue and they should stand by their product and fix what they broke or made cheaply. I brought my truck new, in fact I traded in a 1999 F-150 King Cab with small side door. This was the first new vehicle I ever brought, should I say thankyou.

I checked with a dealer in southern Oklahoma while getting a seperate problem fixed and was quoted around $1200 just for the parts. I saw the cracks growing over the past couple of years and they seemed at one point to stop growing but the wife reached across the top of the dash to retrieve an item she had placed there and that is when it really went down hill. When she grabbed the item her fingers brushed against the a defrost vent which simply disintegrated. When the pieces fell into the duct below not only did the airflow to the defrost get stopped but we also get minimal airflow through the rest of the ventilation system although the AC/Heater and fan fan still seems to work ing fine. I have not noticed that the amount of airflow to the defroster would not be adequate to keep ice build up from forming under cold wet conditions,
Would this qualify as a safety hazard?

My 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 that is in mint condition has now got dashboard cracking problems. It started with one crack in it, now it has five and the vents for the dash speakers are starting to fall apart. I have read many complaints about this problem. When I talked to dealer about the problem, they acted like I was the only one that has this problem. Now that Chrysler is collapsing I guess we are all SOL. Also since we have had our tax money go to help Chrysler restructure I think that we can demand to have this problem fixed at no charge. WHAT THE HELL AM I THINKING! After the 5th crack appeared I started getting concerned and embarrassed about the situation but didn't really know what to do. Thinking that this was an isolated problem I started looking for solutions on the web and all I found were sites selling dash covers. I bought one but have noticed that the crack continue to grow under the cover.

After learning that this is a widespread problem I started looking deeper into it on the web and found out that there may be thousands of Dodge owners with this issue. Personally I do not plan to buy another Dodge vehicle unless I see that this issue has been resolved correctly. I would like to see a recall done so that these faulty parts can be replaced at the manufacturers expense. There is no reason why we, the vehicle owners, should pay for something that we originally paid for.

Both the small 4-5" wide plastic strip adjacent to the Window, AND the main frontal Dashboard have cracked. Cosmetically, its ugly, but it causes the audio system to create buzzes (plastic dash vibrating against itself at cracks) which means the supposedly premium sound system now sounds like an old AM radio on a bad speaker. I would have fixed it but the dealer was backlogged with hundreds of requests for the part - and had been for 8 months. They said they couldn't get it. Dodge should have recalled or replaced these -- and I am glad they are going bankrupt now. Also if you are pro auto bailout - consider Chrysler got bailed out 25 years ago and didn't really fix their quality issue - my Ram was constantly in the shop for 7 years. Next stop - Toyota.

Update from May 6, 2009: Checked with the dealer again. The large front/top dash panel is $795 for the *part* only. The rear (approx 5") panel is not available at all - they can't even order it. I tried 4 times previously. Before they just said it was backordered. now, they say it can't be ordered at all.

$38K sticker price on this vehicle in 2002 when I bought it new. I didn't pay anywhere near that, but the point is this was getting into the premium price range for a truck at the time. What a pile of crap. I will never buy another chrysler product again. (Or anything from their spinoffs, bankruptcy reformations etc.) Chrysler products stink, just like they did before bailout #1 in the late 70's/early80's. They made them look a little nicer but never fixed their bad quality. What a sh*tty automobile.

At first I thought I had a random problem, until I started hearing the same complaint from friends and relatives. I purchased this vehicle brand new adding custom fender flares and steps, tonneau cover, vent visors etc. My truck has been garage kept since it was brand new. No dents, perfect paint yada yada yada. The dash panels started cracking like a Popsicle dropped from fifty feet. My Dodge dealer blew me off like a hurricane. We were ( and I mean WERE) a two vehicle Dodge/Chrysler family. We just unloaded my better halfs Sebring and the Ram is next to go. I will never purchase a Dodge or Chrysler again.

I don't know about the other Dodge Ram fans but I'm a huge lover of the Ram. I always wanted this truck and when I finally got one I was the happiest person alive. But, I noticed not too long after I got it that there was a slight crack in the dash right in the middle. About a few weeks later the whole dash cracked all over the place and I big chunk broke off and now there's a huge hole in my dash. Not only that but my A/C goes out as well right after that. Are the two related ...I'm not sure. So I ask Dodge if this is a major problem and they tell me it's almost unspoken to them.

I showed the Service manager my problem and he quoted me $4,200 just to fix the dash and A/C which I believe should be a free replacement from Dodge. The truck is in great shape and I've always maintained it. It's my baby but this is BULL and Dodge is doing exactly what their name stands for, they're Dodging this problem. Way to go Dodge. Good way to keep your customers happy.

I also have cracks in my dash on my 02 Dodge Ram.This is the 3rd Dodge I have bought. Although the cracks are very annoying and ugly, this cosmetic problem will not stop me from buying another in the future. I do think that because this is a known problem Chrysler should make it easier and more affordable to fix or replace it, but I have to admit, I still LOVE my truck!

When I bought my truck it was only a year old and I really have taken excellent care of this truck. Summer of 08 all the sudden my dash just starts to crack. In a months time it has 3 huge cracks. I thought it was just a freak incident till I went online and read about how this happens all the time to Dodges.. I'm very upset because all these years I've kept her in mint condition and now due to the cracks it just looks like a piece of junk on the inside.
I'm not going to get rid of my truck but I am pissed off that this happened...

My truck is a 2002 which I bought used in 2003 from Jekins Dodge in Lavale, MD with a 7 yr 70,000 mile warranty that has been totally a waste of my hard earned money. The truck has always been well taken care of by me. I went on vacation in 2006 and noticed a small crack in dashboard. After returning I took the truck back to the dealer and showed them the crack. I was told this was just regular wear and they would not repair it. I have complained both to Dodge and the dealer. My dashboard is now split down the middle. At times I have to take out the heater motor to remove pieces of plastic that have fallen in the vents. They should recall this problem at once. Chrysler hung the phone up on me after many calls. Lets make them fix this problem!

I bought my Ram 1500 New as a left over that someone ordered and decided not to buy. I actually did not ny the vehicle until around March of 2003, so it is just 6 years old to me. In May of 2008 I noticed a couple of small cracks in the dash, now there are 6 cracks in the dash i9ncludin one that goes all the way to the front over the glove box. This car has been meticulously cared for and when not being driven has had a windshield cover up and the windows slightly cracked on hot days.

I am extremely unhappy about this, and was told by the local dealer that I would have to pay for its replacement as Dodge would not cover the cost as defective. This is the second Ram I have own and will likely be the last! I will probably go back to Ford products after this.

The first Ram I owned was a 1998 Quad Cab 4X4. About 4 months and 3900 miles out of warranty the engine blew up after the truck over heated with no warning what so ever. The block cracked after the oil pump stopped working, however the oil pressure gauge indicated no problems.

I should have learned my lesson the first time!

On this cracked dashborad business maybe a class action law suit should be in order!

First off I own a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport. Back in February of 2008 I noticed my dash board beginning to crack almost in the dead center. It grew and grew until it reached the front of my dash, at which time another crack started to form on the passengers side dash. This problem is something that Chrysler should own up to, and fix like most auto makers do by issuing a RECALL!!. I am now stuck in "Certified Used Dodge" that has 75,000 miles on it ( 15,000 put on it since I bought it from S&S in Baltimore one year ago), and I have now had to replace the Radiator, water pump, thermostat, heater core, get the rest of the cooling system flushed, the ring and pinion replaced, and now the dash. Now I have never been one to complain, but this is the first Chrysler vehicle that I have ever purchased, and I have more problems with this truck in the one year that I have owned it than with all of the other cars I have owned in my life combined. To top it all off, this has less mile on it that my VW, Nissan, and GMC. To be perfectly honest, if Chrysler went under tomorrow I think that it would be nothing more than KARMA findly making its way to a company who has drained loyal Americans wallets to way to many years. I REFUSE TO EVER BUY ANOTHER CHRYSLER PRODUCT. My next problem is how the Dodge dealers handle these problems, its almost like they want you to never buy another car from them. The attitude you get from them when you walk in and tell them that the CERTIFIED USED truck you bought less than a year ago is falling apart is totally rude, and inconsiderate. They offer no help with anything, and expect you to make your payment on your vehicle that is falling apart quicker than you can put it back together ( financially ). I know this will make absolutely no impact on anything in regards to Chrysler, Dealers, or the problems with my truck, but it does feel good to get this off my chest. If anyone out there can take anything from this short blog please take this. I know more than 10 people in my immediate circle of family and friends that have been screwed by Chrysler vehicles, and I would never ever recommend buying one. They DO NOT stand behind there products, nor help the people who have been financially damaged by them. Thanks for listening.

I DIDN'T KNOW THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM, one day I just happened to notice two bad cracks in my dash one at the defrost vent and one on the dash, I had always kept them wiped down and tried to make sure they didn't dry out, and just recently I have had another spot crack, but I just don't have the money. I think that it is BULL$%*! that such a problem has not been taken care of by DODGE. It should be THEIR FIX not OURS. DODGE needs to own up to their POS dash and recall the problem.

Started off as a small hairline crack but eventually ended up like the Grand Canyon. I park in my garage at home and cover with window shade during the day at work. I take pride in my vehicle and am really disappointed that this has occured. Replacement is the only option at this point and unfortunately, it will come at my expense. I too agree that Dodge should stand behind their product and absorb the expense of replacement of this inferior dashboard.

I was looking on the internet on prices for a new dash when i found that my truck was not the only truck that was doing this. I called the dealer and they said it would be about $700 to puy a new one in. I do not understand if they are having so much problems ith this how come they do not recall this problem. It started out small on day and about a week later i had the grand canyon in my truck.

I noticed a small crack almost 2 year ago but from the drivers seat, it looked like a hairline crack. Everyone who sat in the passenger seat would always tell me "you have a crack in your dashboard" It wasn't till i was cleaning the dash that I noticed how big it really was.Now the dash is all crack
