I really upset with the cracking of my dash over the last month. I take very good care of my truck. Most people can not believe that is is a 2002 truck. In the last month I noticed a crack by the vent then over the last few weeks i started seeing cracks in several area on the dash. I guess at this point I am going to have to replace it or cover it. At least I am not the only one experiencing this problem.

My 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 that is in mint condition has now got dashboard cracking problems. It started with one crack in it, now it has five and the vents for the dash speakers are starting to fall apart. I have read many complaints about this problem. When I talked to dealer about the problem, they acted like I was the only one that has this problem. Now that Chrysler is collapsing I guess we are all SOL. Also since we have had our tax money go to help Chrysler restructure I think that we can demand to have this problem fixed at no charge. WHAT THE HELL AM I THINKING! The hard working, tax paying people always get it right in the crack of our ass.

This problem shows just one of the many annoying problems that the dodge truck is plagued by which proves dodge should build a better quality truck that is as tough as it looks and should fix the problems that are plaguing dodge truck owners.

After the 5th crack appeared I started getting concerned and embarrassed about the situation but didn't really know what to do. Thinking that this was an isolated problem I started looking for solutions on the web and all I found were sites selling dash covers. I bought one but have noticed that the crack continue to grow under the cover.

After learning that this is a widespread problem I started looking deeper into it on the web and found out that there may be thousands of Dodge owners with this issue. Personally I do not plan to buy another Dodge vehicle unless I see that this issue has been resolved correctly. I would like to see a recall done so that these faulty parts can be replaced at the manufacturers expense. There is no reason why we, the vehicle owners, should pay for something that we originally paid for.

Ram 1500 SLT Plus 5.9L/360 V8

Both the small 4-5" wide plastic strip adjacent to the Window, AND the main frontal Dashboard have cracked. Cosmetically, its ugly, but it causes the audio system to create buzzes (plastic dash vibrating against itself at cracks) which means the supposedly premium sound system now sounds like an old AM radio on a bad speaker. I would have fixed it but the dealer was backlogged with hundreds of requests for the part - and had been for 8 months. They said they couldn't get it. Dodge should have recalled or replaced these -- and I am glad they are going bankrupt now. Also if you are pro auto bailout - consider Chrysler got bailed out 25 years ago and didn't really fix their quality issue - my Ram was constantly in the shop for 7 years. Next stop - Toyota.

Update from May 6, 2009: Checked with the dealer again. The large front/top dash panel is $795 for the *part* only. The rear (approx 5") panel is not available at all - they can't even order it. I tried 4 times previously. Before they just said it was backordered. now, they say it can't be ordered at all.

$38K sticker price on this vehicle in 2002 when I bought it new. I didn't pay anywhere near that, but the point is this was getting into the premium price range for a truck at the time. What a pile of crap. I will never buy another chrysler product again. (Or anything from their spinoffs, bankruptcy reformations etc.) Chrysler products stink, just like they did before bailout #1 in the late 70's/early80's. They made them look a little nicer but never fixed their bad quality. What a sh*tty automobile.

Just went into town and noticed a crack on the passenger side dash board about 6-7 inches long.. This has been my dream truck (fully loaded) and now I have a stupid crack in the dash. The truck looks BRAND NEW on the outside and was on the inside too until this. I have no idea how to fix it or if it can be fixed to look half way decent. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know! At first I thought I had a random problem, until I started hearing the same complaint from friends and relatives. I purchased this vehicle brand new adding custom fender flares and steps, tonneau cover, vent visors etc. My truck has been garage kept since it was brand new. No dents, perfect paint yada yada yada. The dash panels started cracking like a Popsicle dropped from fifty feet. My Dodge dealer blew me off like a hurricane. We were ( and I mean WERE) a two vehicle Dodge/Chrysler family. We just unloaded my better halfs Sebring and the Ram is next to go. I will never purchase a Dodge or Chrysler again.

I don't know about the other Dodge Ram fans but I'm a huge lover of the Ram. I always wanted this truck and when I finally got one I was the happiest person alive. But, I noticed not too long after I got it that there was a slight crack in the dash right in the middle. About a few weeks later the whole dash cracked all over the place and I big chunk broke off and now there's a huge hole in my dash. Not only that but my A/C goes out as well right after that. Are the two related ...I'm not sure. So I ask Dodge if this is a major problem and they tell me it's almost unspoken to them.

I showed the Service manager my problem and he quoted me $4,200 just to fix the dash and A/C which I believe should be a free replacement from Dodge. The truck is in great shape and I've always maintained it. It's my baby but this is BULL and Dodge is doing exactly what their name stands for, they're Dodging this problem. Way to go Dodge. Good way to keep your customers happy.

I also have cracks in my dash on my 02 Dodge Ram.This is the 3rd Dodge I have bought. Although the cracks are very annoying and ugly, this cosmetic problem will not stop me from buying another in the future. I do think that because this is a known problem Chrysler should make it easier and more affordable to fix or replace it, but I have to admit, I still LOVE my truck!

I thought it was just a freak incident till I went online and read about how this happens all the time to Dodges.. My truck is a 2002 which I bought used in 2003 from Jekins Dodge in Lavale, MD with a 7 yr 70,000 mile warranty that has been totally a waste of my hard earned money. The truck has always been well taken care of by me. I went on vacation in 2006 and noticed a small crack in dashboard. After returning I took the truck back to the dealer and showed them the crack. I was told this was just regular wear and they would not repair it. I have complained both to Dodge and the dealer. My dashboard is now split down the middle. At times I have to take out the heater motor to remove pieces of plastic that have fallen in the vents. They should recall this problem at once. Chrysler hung the phone up on me after many calls. Lets make them fix this problem!

I bought my Ram 1500 New as a left over that someone ordered and decided not to buy. I actually did not ny the vehicle until around March of 2003, so it is just 6 years old to me. In May of 2008 I noticed a couple of small cracks in the dash, now there are 6 cracks in the dash i9ncludin one that goes all the way to the front over the glove box. This car has been meticulously cared for and when not being driven has had a windshield cover up and the windows slightly cracked on hot days.

I am extremely unhappy about this, and was told by the local dealer that I would have to pay for its replacement as Dodge would not cover the cost as defective. This is the second Ram I have own and will likely be the last! I will probably go back to Ford products after this.

The first Ram I owned was a 1998 Quad Cab 4X4. About 4 months and 3900 miles out of warranty the engine blew up after the truck over heated with no warning what so ever. The block cracked after the oil pump stopped working, however the oil pressure gauge indicated no problems.

I should have learned my lesson the first time!

On this cracked dashborad business maybe a class action law suit should be in order!

First off I own a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport. Back in February of 2008 I noticed my dash board beginning to crack almost in the dead center. It grew and grew until it reached the front of my dash, at which time another crack started to form on the passengers side dash. This problem is something that Chrysler should own up to, and fix like most auto makers do by issuing a RECALL!!. I am now stuck in "Certified Used Dodge" that has 75,000 miles on it ( 15,000 put on it since I bought it from S&S in Baltimore one year ago), and I have now had to replace the Radiator, water pump, thermostat, heater core, get the rest of the cooling system flushed, the ring and pinion replaced, and now the dash. Now I have never been one to complain, but this is the first Chrysler vehicle that I have ever purchased, and I have more problems with this truck in the one year that I have owned it than with all of the other cars I have owned in my life combined. To top it all off, this has less mile on it that my VW, Nissan, and GMC. To be perfectly honest, if Chrysler went under tomorrow I think that it would be nothing more than KARMA findly making its way to a company who has drained loyal Americans wallets to way to many years. I REFUSE TO EVER BUY ANOTHER CHRYSLER PRODUCT. My next problem is how the Dodge dealers handle these problems, its almost like they want you to never buy another car from them. The attitude you get from them when you walk in and tell them that the CERTIFIED USED truck you bought less than a year ago is falling apart is totally rude, and inconsiderate. They offer no help with anything, and expect you to make your payment on your vehicle that is falling apart quicker than you can put it back together ( financially ). I know this will make absolutely no impact on anything in regards to Chrysler, Dealers, or the problems with my truck, but it does feel good to get this off my chest. If anyone out there can take anything from this short blog please take this. I know more than 10 people in my immediate circle of family and friends that have been screwed by Chrysler vehicles, and I would never ever recommend buying one. They DO NOT stand behind there products, nor help the people who have been financially damaged by them. Thanks for listening.

I DIDN'T KNOW THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM, one day I just happened to notice two bad cracks in my dash one at the defrost vent and one on the dash, I had always kept them wiped down and tried to make sure they didn't dry out, and just recently I have had another spot crack, but I just don't have the money. I think that it is BULL$%*! that such a problem has not been taken care of by DODGE. It should be THEIR FIX not OURS. DODGE needs to own up to their POS dash and recall the problem.

Started off as a small hairline crack but eventually ended up like the Grand Canyon. I park in my garage at home and cover with window shade during the day at work. I take pride in my vehicle and am really disappointed that this has occured. Replacement is the only option at this point and unfortunately, it will come at my expense. I too agree that Dodge should stand behind their product and absorb the expense of replacement of this inferior dashboard.

I just figured the truck is 6 plus years old and this sh*t happens to trucks. This is my third Dodge and I like the trucks a lot but will reconsider any future purchases from Dodge. So I guess i am stuck with a cracked dashboard for the life of the truck because I am not spending $1,500 bucks to fix it. Maybe I'll put a little doyllie on it to cover the crack since It obviously cant stand up to much more than normal wear.

I cannot believe how many others have this dash cracking problem, I thought it was just cause I'm in Arizona and our heat caused it. I found a website named Raybuck.com that lists the dash replacement parts for like 99 dollars for the small piece closest to the windshield, thats the one I will need. This is way cheaper than a dealership will charge for the part alone, you will have to install yourself but I am willing to take that on , especially after reading how many of you got nowhere with dodge replacing it. Again its " Raybuck.com " then search for your model...etc.

first crack appeared about a year and a half ago. i heard a loud crack while driving down the interstate and after i stopped i noticed a crack in the dash on the right hand side. since then i have had four more cracks develop and the top dash pad is lifting up. i take good care of my vehicles and even use window shades when not in use. this should not be happening. i have a 1999 Chevy Tahoe with 240,000 on it and it doesn't have one crack in the dash. dodge should step up to the plate and fix this issue. dodge is doing a lot of advertising about how good their vehicles are but unresolved issues like this do not back up their claim. unless dodge makes this right, my next vehicle will not be a dodge.

I got in my truck this morning and noticed a crack in the dash on the right side in front of the passenger seat. It goes front the front of the dash straight back to the middle. I couldn't believe it, then once I started looking closer there was 2 more cracks in the middle up by the windshield. My truck only has just over 31,000 miles and still looks new. I'm the only owner so I know it has always been taken care of. How could the dash just crack like this for no reason? Dodge needs to do something about this! This is now the only defect on my truck and it's driving me crazy. I had no idea this was a common issue until I seen this site when I was looking online to find a replacement and to see how much this was going to cost me. Has anyone found a good fix for this? Also, has anyone had there's replaced, if so, how much can I expect to pay?

I now have 4 cracks in my dash. Dodge should replace it at no charge to me. My brother in law has a 2002 Dodge 2500 and has the same problem. Piece of junk. Last Dodge for us.

Our 2001 Ford Expedition still looks new. Show's who make the better ride.

I have gotten so disgusted with the fact that Dodge doesn't want to take any responsibility towards correcting this issue. Was it just a batch of bad plastic that affected the dash boards in hundreds or thousands of trucks(my truck is a Ram 1500 quad cab 4 door)? Were the casting molds dimensions for the plastic dash or the area the plastic dash mounts to out of tolerance allowing time and stress to cause the plastic to prematurely fail. I think it was a batch of bad plastic or possibly no, or inadequate UV protection in the windshield for the design. Probably bad plastic or problems during the molding process with the dash manufacturer and Dodge should go after the dash manufacturer to have the dash replaced.

Major impact on the physical appearance of an otherwise good looking truck. Impacts resell value by as much as a fender bender, wreck with a less than perfect repair, or bad paint job or dents and dings. Affects owner's pride in ownership.

Impacts present owners and future buyers from the perspective that Dodge does not place significant value on problems created by them or their component manufacturer's.

I thought first crack would relieve the stress on the dash and stop growing. I was wrong.

Took by local dealer. Local dealer, service manager admitted Dodge had experienced problems with dash cracking in some trucks. Did not offer to contact Dodge area service rep. I figured from his comments that Dodge had already blown off any impact this would have with customer happiness and was not going to act on this problem on a recall or per customer basis.

Did I mention that I have a 1995 F150 and a 1992 F250 and that the plastic dash on neither of those trucks are cracked or cracking.

More later
several more cracks have appeared over the last few years and have grown from the windshield to the face of the dashboard. with no sign of the crack arresting its spread.

When I bought my truck I never would have thought that my dash would be looking like this after only a few years. This is very upsetting. These trucks are very expensive to have such poor quality on the dash. I would like to have my dash fixed. If I got it fixed I would be a happy man. Other than this dash cracked all to pieces I love the truck. I have no other complaints. I may even buy another dodge truck some day.

This was a brand new truck bought right off the showroom floor with under 200 miles when purchased...I am pissed off about the whole situation because I have had several service managers tell me that Dodge should have replaced the dash...and yet to this day I still have over 5 very large cracks which takes away from the appearance of the truck and I believe could in fact be a danger to me and my passengers if I were ever in a crash. It should have been recalled when the first problems showed up and Dodge
should have acknowledged that there was in fact a problem...instead they try a sell you a replacement part that will only cost you additional ...also the paint on the right front fender and the hood was redone in 2004 at a Dodge dealer in Marion Illinois' now I have several spots on the fender and hood with a large chip that is missing on the fender the size of a silver dollar that has come loose and shows the primer . So what can you do when you do all the right things and Dodge won't make their mistakes right?

The dash started cracking near the windshield during the spring. Now the main dash is cracking. I found this web site by accident looking for a replacement dash. I was shocked to see how many people with the same problem! Not only the 2002, but all others as well. After seeing all these complaints, I printed them out ant went to the Dealership where I bought my truck. They looked at it and said they would fix it at my expense for $1,288.00 I told them it was clearly a defect and should be recalled. They said it wasn't a safety issue and they would not fix it.It's no wonder why people are buying foreign made auto's. Chrysler needs to step up to the plate and fix these issues!
I am going to contact Better Business Bureau, I will be seeking legal advice. I have bought my last Dodge / Chrysler vehicle.

Listen up Dodge. I have worked hard for what I have and this is not the result I would prefer from the product in which that hard earned money went to. What the heck!

My dash started to crack dead center from the windshield (which was appr. 6" long). Then a few months later, the passenger side started to crack directly above the vent which covers the speaker. It is now sticking straight-up in the air. (LOOKS HORRIFIC).
Do the right thing and stand behind your product.

This is now the second time I have had problems with Dodge vehicles. (1999 Durango) I won't even go there!

The dashboard in my 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4x4 started cracking after just 3 years. I checked with a dealership and they said that it was not covered under warranty and that it would cost approx $1400 to replace. This is stupid, especially after reading about how many Dodge vehicles this is happening to. I have ALWAYS bought American and would like to continue but with the cost of vehicles and the way the economy is going I might not be able to afford it. Dodge should step up and do the right thing if they want to keep their loyal customers!!!!!! Does anyone know if Dodge has done anything to address this problem?

Wow, I never knew so many others were having the same problem. I agree Dodge should do something, but it will never be a recall until it becomes a safety issue. With the present economic conditions, I doubt Dodge will ever fix it - they might not be around much longer anyway. I've had my eye on the Tundra...

Dash is falling apart. Cracks everywhere. Dodge should pay for this. Will not buy another one. Someone needs to get a class-action law suite together.

The dash on my 2002 ram 1500 got a small crack in it. This crack continues to grow, and is now 18 inches long. Also while I was cleaning the interior and wiping the dash with a rag one of the defrost vents just fell apart and is now just a big whole. I think Dodge should offer a free fix to this, sense it seems to be such a wide spread problem.
They will lose a lot of customers if they do not

I hope you guys send this message to dodge to recall this issue ..I start noticing a little crack on dashboard
But now is all across through the center of dashboard it really look bad
I do own another dodge van that I have for many years and never have this kind of problems..
I still believe dodge are the best cars for me.. If they don't fix the problem I still going to fix it But I think is Just not Right for us to pay for a cheap dashboard that they put on it.

Im afraid to pay for a new dashboard that is going to be cheap plastic as this one.
