Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Please take a moment & say thank you by donating $5 or whatever you can to the Center for Auto Safety.

CarComplaints.com Notes: The Freestar was introduced in 2004, but it was essentially just a rebranded Windstar. While there was a redesign of the interior and exterior, the Freestar still inherited some of the design flaws of its predecessor.

When I turn steering wheel I hear a noise like something is loose and rolling around in the air bag housing. Is there a danger of something loose in there acting as a projectile should the air bag deploy" I don't want to mess with this myself, what should I do"

Experienced a sudden loss of motive power to the engine on 2004 Freestar while driving in bad weather and heavy traffic. Air bag light came on as well. Towed to dealer. Told transmission and air bag module needed to be replaced. Cost $4000. Freestar has 48,589 miles. Extended warranty expired in August. Had car in to dealer 4 times during the summer for traction control issues and failure of backup sensors. 2006 had to be towed to dealer due to engine stopped running 3 times in less than 2 miles. Trade in value $5700(minus $4000 in transmission and airbag module replacement)

2004 Ford Freestar air bag warning light illuminates on and off while driving. The dealer suggested that the system was operating in accordance with the design intent. The consumer requested from NHTSA a solution that can be implemented promptly. The light illuminated when the consumers wife sat in the front passenger seat.
