Ranger XLT 4.0L V6

  • Manual transmission
  • 106,000 miles

Pickup truck runs great, body is mostly fine. but the frame is literally crumbling to pieces with rust. The worst spot is from the leaf spring shackle back. Last year, the rear driver side leaf spring shackle broke. A mechanic was able to bolt new ones on, but they are hanging on by a thread. The rear bumper fell off last summer with nothing to attach it too.

No body shops where I live want to work on it. I found one who said that they would find a rear frame section from another truck and fix mine. However, they said it might be difficult to find one that wasn't also rusted. They couldn't find one.

Ranger FX4 V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 33,400 miles

Just took my 2005 Ranger 4WD FX4 in for state inspection. Was told by the tech he could not pass the truck because the frame under the engine is almost rusted through and that there is no fix for this. This truck has under 40K miles on it, and I take really good care of it, wash it frequently esp. in winter. It is my 5th Ford Truck-- none ever had this level of deterioration, and one I owned for 15 years! This is outrageous, and there is no accountability from the company as the truck is past warranty in years.
