To fix the problem, column gear shifter loose - could cause accident/injury, remove the knee cover under the steering column. Locate shift mechanism adjacent to the steering column. Remove the loose T-30 Torx screw, apply Locktite, reinstall. Repeat for other screw in that order. Warning: DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN! Steel screw is threaded into soft aluminum base! Best to use 1/4" ratchet and adapter.

If shift indicator is not correct, you will need to determine the problem while you are there. That is usually a broken plastic clip. Fixing the shifter may cause the shift indicator to show a position other than the true shift position.

This applies to automatic transmissions.

Both are near each other.

If either malfunctions, you may not start the vehicle, or it can start in gear resulting in a potential accident/property damage.

Both repairs are on youtube if you need to see them.
