Ranger Widtrak 2.0L Biturbo

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

I own a Ford Wildtrak which I bought pre-owned show room car from Ford in KL Malaysia. My name is Jeremiah Ng, my registration number is VCG5543. It was registered in in October 2018 and I bought it on Sept 2019 from Ford agent.

My one-year old Ford ranger Wildtrak broke down on the North south express way south bound on my way back to Johor Bahru from a holiday at Cameron highland. It all happened at around 8 pm in the night on 23 Dec 2019.

It was really dangerous, the transmission failed suddenly, I know it because the engine was suddenly running free and I have to let the car run on its own momentum towards the safely lane beside the highway. I need to engage tow service with my insurance company to tow my truck to Ford agent. Thankfully I was not far from the Ford agent that I had purchased the truck. May car was a display unit when I bought it with only 3000 km on mileage and when it broke down it was only 20000 km in mileage.

The incident required me to plan for alternative transport arrangement for my passengers to their final destination in Johore Bahru some 350 km away. There were an elderly couple and 2 friends with me at the time. the whole situation was really dangerous, as we were park precariously by the safety lane. The risk of being hit by a passing lorry was real and frightening as many lorries did sped by. I have to made everyone stand away from the highway, at the slip way, for their safety while we waited for help to arrive. Thankfully the tow truck and alternative transport did not take too long to arrive.

The whole ordeal took me closed to 6 hours to resolve, needing me to accompany the tow truck to Ford agent Thankfully the company I work for had an apartment in KL for me to put up for the night. Even then I only managed to arrive at wee hour in the morning. Later that morning when I visited Ford agent, they confirmed that it is the transmission that had failed and that they have proceed to claim for a replacement of the unit.

They are a willing and a helpful lot, very professional. But unfortunately, they told me I need to wait from 1 to 2 months for the arrival of the transmission before they can even begin the replacement job, something that is beyond them. That is terrible, I really question the quality of design and build of the truck. It failed so prematurely, it is the worse car in record I have owned, performing far worse than a Chevy Colorado which I am still driving that had has a transmission issue only at 120,000 km. Worse, a China made Kinglong van own by a friend, known for its very poor quality of build is now running at 50,000 km without incident. Performing far better than the Ford.

Making matter worse, I was told by the Ford Agent that they were instructed by Ford to repair the unit instead of getting a new replacement. To date, they are still waiting for part arrival.

I have request for extended warranty for the transmission in question which I felt only reasonable and also lost of use for my Truck. Both were flatly turned down by Ford.

I am told now that I may need to wait End of Jan, worse early Feb for the issue to be resolve. I need to speak out, I felt I am bullied and taken advantage of by Ford. I Hope someone out there can hear me and help me on the course of action that I should take.
