CarComplaints.com Notes: Most people need a car where the coil springs don't puncture or shred tires while driving. The Taurus fails in that respect.

The 1999-2003 Ford Taurus has a huge problem with coil springs breaking, which can puncture or even shred tires while driving.

The US government spent THREE YEARS (2008-2011) investigating the 2002-2003 Taurus coil springs. Although Taurus/Sable from earlier years were recalled, ultimately the NHTSA did not force a recall. They determined that because there had been no deaths & very few bad crashes & injuries, the broken coil springs defect was no big deal & not a safety defect. Tell that to all the owners who had close calls...

MY CAR STARTED TO HESITATE AND THE RPMS WOULD GO WAY DOWN AS I PRESSED ON THE GAS AT A STOP LIGHT.... SOMETIMES THE CAR WOULD JUST STALL AT THE STOP LIGHT..... THIS HAPPENED FOR ABOUT A MONTH THEN JUST A FEW DAY AGO MY A/C WENT OUT.... THEN NOT THING THIS WAS A CHAIN OF EVENTS... I WAS DRIVING ON THE ROAD WHEN I HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE.... I DROVE IT HOME THAT WAY.... THE NEXT DAY I HAD A MECHANIC COME TO MY HOME TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT..... HE INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS THE A/C COMPRESSOR ... THE PULLEY THAT RUNS THE COMPRESSOR CAUSED ALL THAT NOISE AS THE COMPRESSOR WENT OUT AND WAS NO LONGER WORKING...AND THE PULLEY WAS NOT BEING PULLED BY THE SERPENTINE BELT.... SO THATS WHAT I HAVE TO SHARE.... SO JUST LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAD ANY ISSUES WITH YOUR FORD TAURAS THAT YOU THINK I SHOULD BE AWARE ABOUT.... SUCH AS DEFECTS??? AND SO FORTH... THANKS ....

Purchased car used on March 31, 2007. Nice looking car, very clean. Noticed about 3 weeks later, when the spring heat was kicking in, while idling with the A/C on the engine would feeling as if it was going to stall and the oil light would flash. I was told that it may need a tune up. So I did and got the oil changed. This issue is still their. I am looking for anyone who may have had this problem and to tell me how much it may cost to fix this problem. I am highly irritated at this point.
