I have a 2005 Ford Taurus that was recently in a collision with a light pole. Our car was equipped with a special airbag system that automatically determines if the child weighs 90 pounds and automatically turns off the airbag if she didn't. It has a light near the air/heat controls that states "PASS AIRBAG OFF". This was a major deciding factor when we purchased this vehicle. During our meet up with the light pole, the airbag deployed on my barely 60 pound daughter which could have killed her. The "passenger airbag off" light was on meaning that the airbag should not have deployed. I want other parents to know that just because a vehicle is equipped with this special airbag off feature does not mean anything. If I would have known that the airbag would deploy regardless of the light indicating that it was off, I would have never had my small child in the front seat.
