CarComplaints.com Notes: We're not used to seeing any major problems with Hyundai, which makes the early signs of trouble with the 2013 Elantra very surprising, in a bad way.

Early trends show problems with the steering wandering / pulling to one side along with premature tire wear. Elantra owners have tried sensor adjustments, wheel alignments, even replacing axles, most with no luck. Hyundai has made vehicle buybacks through arbitration, but that rarely works out well financially for owners in the end.

Also there is a pattern of complaints about the 2013 Elantra brakes grinding at very low mileage. It seems there was a bad batch of OEM pads & rotors, but so far Hyundai is not doing a recall. Instead Hyundai issued a TSB & dealers have been replacing pads & rotors on a per-complaint basis.

The final straw is that for several years in a row, Elantra owners report significantly lower gas mileage than the EPA estimates, & there's a small trend of engine problems.

I had a oil change in late April or Mayish and have barely been driving. It was time to go fishing and I got the oil change at Calgary Hyundai. Then they said all my taillights were off. so I got those done. Had lots of power going to BC and coming back till just outside of Banff my oil light started to flicker then the check engine light came on. I drove back to Calgary and started to hear strange noises.

I got my oil changed and it was down about half. I find this unacceptable. I registered a complaint with Hyundai Canada no call back. This is the first problem I have had with this car. Now unless it is something simple like spark plugs, I should not have to pay for this repair. It will be in at Precision Hyundai 10pm tomorrow. I think it is due to the oil situation and I am hoping it isn't serious.

Elantra Limited 2.4L V4

The check engine light went on, brought it to the dealer. The code they found was P2004, intake manifold valve is stuck open. I was told this is not a common problem even with the mileage being high. I am so over this car and its issues.

catalytic converter failing

the Car has a permant check engine light. I had my mechanic pull the code and its triggering the "low catalytic converter efficiency threshold". which is because the cars converters are not working up to spec. which means this car is polluting the air more then it should. and also that when it comes time to smog it. it wont pass smog. I regret this Purchase every single day. whatever you do PLEASE stay away from this generation of Elantra's they are the WORST new car ive ever owned and i will never buy another as long as I live.
