Rotars and brake pads have been a consistent problem, every few months. Rotars and brake pads have been replaced, refaced, and resurface on several occasions and the problem continues. The problem causes an extreme vibration at higher speeds in the steering column and is a concern because this is our family vehicle. I have three children that I Transport everyday to school, sports and other activities. I have spent a lot of time arguing with representatives from Chrysler as well as the dealership in order to resolve this ongoing problem and have spent a lot of time with no vehicle due to the vehicle being in the shop. I am concerned about the safety of myself, my family and those drivers around me that the brake system may fail in the future. Chrysler encourages my family by stating that this will not occur, however I am unconvinced that a problem with the brakes is not a reason to be alarmed.

The front brakes on this auto have been horriable and have cause considerable stress. Chyrsler refuses to do anything about the continued brake problems, despite numerous complaints from all over the country, by thousands of consumers. I have confirmed this via the internet and any chat room that discusses Jeep problems. Thanks for the help! trisha laforge.

I have experienced chronic problems with the front rotors on my car. I have felt pulsation while breaking at regular 6 month intervals and have had to repeatedly bring the car in for service to remedy this problem. Specifically, the rotors have been resurfaced every 6000 miles and replaced every 12000 miles. This happened at 12,000, 18,000, 24,000, 30,000 and now at 36,000 when the dealer suggests that I replace the front and rear brakes and rotors. Initially I recieved some assistance from the dealer with the rotors resurfaced twice and replaced once at their expense, but now they are claiming no further responsibility and have even suggested that this may be my driving that is causing the problem. Seeing how many similar complaints there are on the internet, I highly doubt this possibility. Additionally my conversation with two technicians at the boardwalk auto center in redwood city, California and technicians at connell in oakland, California, I am led to believe that this is a known problem with some of the 1999-2000+ Grand Cherokee. I must say that I am very disappointed that a new car of this caliber should have any such problems. Also, I am increasingly concerned about safety as I know how crucial brakes are for safe driving. I fear that I will continue to experience this problem, on average, every 6,000 miles; I find that to be an unacceptable situation. Is there anything you can do to advocate for me and the hundreds of others in a similar situation? thank you.

While driving at highway speed, vehicle would vibrate extremly hard when applying brakes almost to the point where he would almost be thrown out of vehicle if it was not for the seat belt, the front rotors were warped badly, front brakes went bad again at 17000 miles, however dealer refused to replace them as the warratny on the brakes had expired, consumer contacted manufacturer and they agreed to replaced them under warranty, consumer is having problems with the brakes for the third time, they are begining to show signs of wearing out, manufacturer stated previously that would be the last time of replacing brakes under warratny.

I purchased my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, in January of 1999. Since I have had the vehicle I have had both front brake rotors serviced four(4) times. The first time was August 30, 2000, at 30,070 miles. The second time was December 12, 2000, at 36,242 miles. The third time was March 16, 2001, at 41,560 miles. The forth time was August 1, 2001, at 44, 288 miles. The first time they were serviced, the service department, at mccafferty had to cut the front rotors. The 2nd thru the 4th times the front rotors had to be resurfaced. I have had to pay for service, all 4 times, the dealer saying it was from normal "wear and tear". on one occasion I talked to Mr. Bob gundy, whom I believe is the service manager at mccafferty Jeep. I told him that I had been told that I had been asked, by another service advisor, if I had a heavy foot on the brakes, being told the damage might be from this. I told the advisor, at the time, I did not. Mr. Gundy stated that it was nothing wrong that I did, but a defect caused by the wheels getting bigger, the brake pads getting bigger, but the front brake rotors staying the same size. This, he told me, caused the front brake rotors to warp, and becoming damaged. He stated, to me, it was because of this. I know, from talking to several other Grand Cherokee owners, that the same problem has occured with their vehicles. The steering wheel shimmying, when the brakes are applied at high speeds. Although not yet a general recall, I believe that the nhytsa should look into this matter, with a possible recall justified, down the road. I thankyou for your attention to this matter.

When appyling brakes extreme vibrations occurs within front wheels due to pads / rotors and calipers prematurely wearing out, cause unknown. Dealer has replaced warped rotors and brakes several times, consumer has even had recall work done on rotors which is not resolving problem. Door panel warped and splitting at bottom, dealer replaced. Vehicle hard to start in the morning time, dealer replaced faulty fuel pump.
