My 1999 grand Jeep Cherokee has the same most common problem of owners who own Jeep from 1999-2004. The heater system blows cold air. Daimler/Chrysler is aware of the defect but will not cover the expensive cost to fix it. Instead they had handed over the cost to us.

I have a '99 Jeep Grand Cherokee ltd. The dual climate control only blows cold air on the drivers side regardless of the temp setting. Dealer says it is very common air-blend actuator/door problem and will cost $$$ to fix.

I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The heating unit has failed. It only blows cold air. I went online to check if it was something that I could fix myself because I called two dealers and they all want to charge $1200 or more to fix it. To my surprise, I found several forums and user groups online whereby people have complained of the same failure in their Jeep Cherokee from year 99-04 models. What they all describe is the exact same problem and experience we had with our Jeep. First the passenger side goes out and only blows cold....then a few weeks later, the driver side does the same thing. I can not imagine why a recall has not been issued on this. The manufacturer acts as if this is not a problem. I would challenge someone to go back and look at how many of these have had to be replaced in those model years. It will be a shocking number.

Two problems: 1. the blower motor resistor burnt out and the ac/head fan quit working. It was sparking when I managed to disconnect the wire. Luckily, I was stopped and could reach it in time - had I been driving its very possible my vehicle would have burnt up. 2. no heat. Entire last winter I was forced to drive 2 hours per day constantly wiping fog off my windshield. I was told by a 'mechanic' it was a clogged heater core so I had to put up with it because I did not have the money to fix it at the time. Dangerous and cold, but I had no choice. Now I am trying to get my vehicle repaired I start researching and find there are entire web sites devoted solely to these two problems. 1. blower motor resistor shorts out. To properly repair you have to replace the resistor and the dashboard wiring harness... very costly!! $600+ 2. no heat due to bad blend doors. $1200+ 3. both of these appear to affect Jeep 1999-2004 year models how can Jeep continue to knowingly sale automobiles with 1 - a fire and safety hazard with the faulty resistor" 2 - a safety hazard with no heat due to faulty blend doors" google it... both of these are very well known problems with these vehicles and are not isolated incidents. Please look at these two links provided. They just start to scratch the surface of how bad this problem really is. Jeep should be responsible for repairing both of these problems as they are both safety issues and they knew about them prior to the sale, not to mention the cost of repairing these items places an unfair burden on the owner since fair trade would mandate these known and recurring defects should have been disclosed prior to sale. These are not rare or isolated incidents, they are known problems Jeep failed to disclose or repair. www.wjjeeps.com/blower_motor.htm www.topix.net/forum/autos/Jeep-grand-Cherokee/tserat48371icob68/P6

HVAC on my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee ltd. Has failed and the system only blows cold air. This makes the vehicle inoperable in cold days of winter: Windshield cannot be properly ventilated. This happens to almost 100% of these vehicles after just 50K miles. And even the dealership says it happens to all models 1999 through 2002 or 3. this should be a recall item, not a tsb! right now it's just a chance for Jeep to make an extra $1,800 off of a factory defect.

Brake rotors warped, and subsequently replaced with same quality, thus are warped again, causing severe shaking to front end upon braking. Mfg. Zone mgr refuses to correct situation, stating it is wear and tear, (NHTSA campaign-00V136000). Starter drags intermittently upon starting with a complete failure at 500 miles. Mfg will not replace starter until it completely fails again. Heat is resricted to drivers feet, and high pitched sound is heard as a result of the restriction. Mfg. Tech service bulletin on file for problem, but dealer calls it normal. Remote control memory side view mirrors will not reset to proper positions, thus causing a safety issue, as mirrors are never in the same place twice. Dealer observed problem and disregarded same. Pittsburgh zone manager contacted by dealer. Mgr refuses to do anything, even though safety issues are involved, as with brakes, mirrors, and starting problem.
