At approc 8000 miles, pulating of brakes was noticed. When coming to a gradual stop. At approximately 10,000 car vibrated when braking at various speeds. I spoke to the huffines service rep on May 15, 2001 while the car was in for a warranty repair, at 15000 miles, after it had lost all power. (distributer problem). He explained to me that the rotors, thru fast cooling, tended to warp with all the weight of the vehicle and it was nothing to worry about from a safety standpoint and it was typical of many cars (even his Ford did it, he said). Again, in June, 2001, I took it into the dealer I bought it from, eldorado, to have a whining noise, . the whining noise together with the worsening vibration when braking concerned me and took it into the dealer where purchased. They found nothing and assured me that the vibraton was typiucal and nothing to worry about, .he suggested that it was probably related to the way in which I manage the brakes when stopping. Since, the vibration has gotten so bad that it is difficult to stay in my lane stoping and it is very scary. I now have 26,000 miles and after researching and going to a N independent mechanic, I discover that it is apparently a manufactuers problem with the equipment and in order to fix, I must buy new rotors and pads, probasbly for front and back. I have also learned that two other friends who have a 1999's have had to have theirs replaced at very low mileage. One of them is on their third set, as are many listed on the nt web site. Brakes should last much longer and with such a dangerous problem, you should be concerned. While there is a service bulletin out on the problem I learned from the sales customer seervice rep at the dealer there is not yet any recall and according to the rep it is a typical problem. She in fact had her replace at 14,000 miles the first time and three times since.. this is a manufacturer problem and it would seem from a liability perspective the manufactuer would want to fix.

When applying the brakes at speeds of 35-55 mph the entire vehicle shakes violently. The steering wheel also vibrates to a point where I feel I will loose control of the vehicle. I first noticed the problem at 8,000 miles and I immediately notified the les vogel dealership who charged me $50 to inspect the brake system. After their inspetion they told me that the rotors will warp when they overheat and cause the vehicle to shake and that it is not a problem. Now at 21,000 miles the vibrating has increased even when applying the brakes at lower speeds. It feels as if the vehicle will not stop in time and this is a major safety issue.

Steering wheel and brake pedal when brakes was applied. I took vehicle to dealer for inspection and they determined that the brake pads were worn down and the rotors needed resurfacing. They said that the parts had a warranty for 12,000 miles. I feel that the brake pads and rotor were worn down prematurely due to defect in design of brake system. Chrysler should redesign their rotors and recall the defective ones.please investigate this as it cost me $229.47 to repair.

There is a defect in the brake pads/rotors. The front brake pads/rotors have been replaced two times, mileage 11,467 and 18,466. The second replacement the service department put on a new updated pad that was supposed to solve the problem. Not quite. Presently the car is in the service department getting all 4 rotors grinded down. I am currently fighting for warranty coverage. I have been through the arbitration process; I was told it hadn't been serviced enough times for this problem. DaimlerChrysler is well aware of this problem, where's the recall for this major safety defect"?"

Please help me I bough a new car from these dealer and I am having problems with the front end. I bought these car in July of 2000 and the brake pads/rotors have been replace 3 times already the first time was on December 2000, the second time was on June 2001 and the third time now was November 2001. The third time I had to pay because my car was over the 12,000 thousand mile warranty. We spoke to the general manager of the dealer and we got no help, he refer us to the manager of the service departmment who was no help either, I just send a letter to the company in Michigan because we really think is not fair, we being given the run around by everyone, we believe that our car has a brake/rotors factory defect but we don't really know how to go about getting help. Besides the last time I took the car to get the rotors replaced the dealer reported to me that something was leaking from the front vehicle and that the inner diferential axles needed to be seals, is these normal on a new car we are mainly concern about the brake/pads rotors and because we have children we do not know if these could be a safety issue. Thank you so much for your help. Sincerely, the [xxx] family. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Vehicle had excessive vibration in steering column when brakes were applied. Dealer replaced warped front rotors and brake pads. Now 4,000 miles later vibration is beginning to happen again, will be taking to dealer for fix but most likely at my expense since 12month 12,000 mile warranty is up. After reading all inputs from Grand Cherokee owners I believe this problem must be a known manufacturer defect or design problem and Jeep should provide a fix at no additional cost to the consumer.

Puchased vehicle 6/30/2000. On 11/30/2000 with only 8,541 miles, the dealer did a warranty replacement of front rotors and brake pads, which was necessary to correct heavy vibration when braking. Vehicle is used 95% in town. Seven month later, on 6/01/2001, same problem. Dealer resurfaced front and back rotors and charged us an $80 (deductable) fee, with the balance paid by daimler Chrysler as gooodwill. Six months later, 12/14/2001 (15,314 miles) we asked the dealer to replace the rotors since the last fix, only 6 months ago did not last. They told us we would have to pay another $200 to replace the front rotors. We were told by "pat" the service technician that they now had a "permanent" fix to this wide spread problem. We did not have time to take it in and on 12/20/2001, while driving on snow packed roads the vehicle was unusually difficult to stop. It felt like the warped rotors impacted the anti-lock brake system to the point of fooling it self into releasing the brakes and alternately locking them up. I can't get more then 7-8 thousand mile out of a set of brakes on this vehicle! my 3 other vehicles have brakes that last over 35,000 miles each! I'm upset over the cost but now I'm extremely concerned about the safety of this vehicle. Diamler Chrysler doesn't want to stand behind their product.
