(1) clicking noise coming from passenger dash area. (2) blend door failure, resulting in the loss of heat on the passenger side. When heat is turned on ice cold air blows on the passenger side. (3) dealership wants $1500 to fix this (common) problem that has happened on thousands of Grand Cherokee. No recall has been issued to date.

On Wednesday night, I was driving my '03 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland in a moderate-to-dense fog around 11:00 pm. The heater had not been working for the last couple of weeks, so I was using the heated seats whenever it was cold out. I was unaware that the defroster vents would also not be working until that night. I was unable to drive home without having to keep the windows down while I stuck my head out to see.

I bought the 2003 Jeep in March of 2007 with 19,000 miles. It was certified that everything worked correctly. I am the sole driver and rarely have a passenger additionally, my wife and I used to commute with our other vehicle(Honda) until her schedule changed. Therefore, we never tested the passenger side heat. Now, it does not work and even though the car has only 22,000 miles, Jeep says they will not fix. I don't believe it worked from the start and I have read numerous complaints on the internet of similar problems. I spoke to the dealer and Chrysler and both were rude and unhelpful. They say we should have bought an extended warranty. Does everything require and extended warranty" can't we expect someone level of quality with having to buy more warranty" I believe the heat system should last more than 22,000 miles.

I have a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited with automatic climate control, and 1 week ago I tried to use the heat and had nothing. I have blower functions, but it only blows cold air. I then got on the internet to find that all Grand Cherokee owners are being or soon will be affected. I also called some local dealerships to discuss with them. I found that there is service bulletins and new parts that were developed for this issue. I also found that the repair requires complete replacement of the HVAC sub assembly at the cost of $900-$1200. They also say that because my heat died at 44000 miles that the warranty is up and they will not help unless I pay. The biggest problem with this issue is that with no heat, I can not defrost my windshield, or even the whole car. I drive 20 miles to work one way, on I-69, from indianapolis to noblesville, and I cannot imagine what it will be like on freezing, snowing day. Please research this and the other complaints in regard of this failure and make Chrysler Corp. Do the right thing and fix this problem, before someone gets hurt or killed this winter.

Grand Cherokee 8-cyl

  • 67,900 miles
I own a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited with 67.900 miles. The events leading up to the failure of the ventilation system were (1) rapid fogging of front windsheild, (2) fogging of front passenger windows, (3) failure of passenger heat while still maintaining driver heat function, and (4) only cold air release on passenger side of Jeep. Consequently, (1) the windsheild and front windows do not defog, and (2) no heat whatsoever comes from the passenger side floor and dashboard ventilation system. To correct this problem, a blend air door"is necessary at a cost of approximately $850, inclusive of 7+ hours of labor. According to the certified service department at the local Jeep dealer and online forums this has become a very common problem for 2000-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee limiteds with duel zone ventilation systems.
