Third time the transmission in my new 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd has shifted into a racing level when starting up from a stop light and had to pull over to side of road and turn off car and restart. The first time it happened a mechanic suggested that I probably accidentally knocked the gear into manual shifting mode. A week or so later it occurred the second and third within a few minutes time frame and before I pulled over to turn off the racing engine I looked at the gear shift and it showed normal automatic drive position. I purchased the car December 1, 2016 and so this problem has happened 3 times within 1 1/2 months.

Grand Cherokee Limited 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission

I have had the Jeep for about one month. A half dozen times or better it stuck in first gear. Mileage is a little over 4,000. In order to get the transmission to shift properly I need to hit the shift lever into manual mode and back into automatic. The engine can be screaming but it will not shift out of first gear on its own. The service dept cannot get it in until next Monday (today is Thursday) so I do not have any fix information.

I can't believe that after only 736 Kilometres my brand new vehicle needed a new gear box ! I thought it came with a new one !!

After many discussions with the salesman I wanted a new vehicle or my money back ! Not happy that a 5 thousand dollar car needs this major work done ! I had I for one week only. Simply put if I get another problem with this car I will push for the lemon laws. I'm not sure how this law works but I will push my point hard.

Being that I need a reliable vehicle for my work I will not be getting another Jeep unless they can sort this out quickly with no fuss. I would like to know where I stand legally in all this ?
