problem #303

On July 15, 2015 I was traveling on a 4 lane road, in town at approximately 35 mph when the airbags in my 2002 Jeep Liberty spontaneously deployed. The road was smooth, I hadn't hit my brakes, or struck anything when they deployed. Fortunately there was a county deputy sheriff 2 vehicles behind my who stopped to offer assistance and call ems. My injuries were minor. Bruising from my elbow to my wrist along with cuts and scrapes on my right arm. I went to the er for an X-ray because of the immediate swelling and the emt who arrived at the scene recommended it to rule out a broken arm. I contacted Chrysler, who informed me that my Jeep was part of the #R06 recall which involved the random deployment of airbags, and while they can repair my airbags and dash, they can't fix the module that actually caused my airbags to deploy. Those parts are not available at this time. In other words, my new airbags could deploy again without warning. I received a recall letter regarding this problem months ago and was told at the time that the parts were not available to repair the problem. I no longer feel safe in my Jeep.
