In spring or summer 2020, our 2008 3.8L v6 LX Kia Sorento began smoking from the engine compartment. After inspecting under the hood, the problem was determined to be coming from the area of the ABS module. The smoking continued until the battery was disconnected or the fuse was pulled entirely. Took it to the mechanic who confirmed it was electrical issues related to the ABS module. After installing two different ABS modules the ABS system still does not work...because the electrical system is fried. Fortunately, the brakes still actuate, but the vehicle has no ABS and has disabled other traction control features in the vehicle. The dashboard looks like a M*F christmas tree. A few months later we got a recall notice from Kia about an electrical short related to this area of the vehicle which can cause an engine compartment fire. Too little, too late Kia! You can't fix my car now that the electrical system is fried!! Lucky we didn't burn up in the car! Total disaster of engineering Kia!
