This is a safety critical component. There is a design/material defect, for the lock just stopped latching, leaving the door to fall open. Ford/Mazda should recall everywhere like I believe they did in Australia.

When driving out from the children's school the left rear door just went up and was not possible to lock again. Fortunately the child was locked in the seat belt, and did not fall out of the car. According to our local authorized Mazda car dealer this is not the first case he have seen, and the same case have been with Ford Ranger. This is a high risk problem with this type of cars, and in my opinion the cars should have been recalled by Mazda to change the lock on all their cars with this type of locks. It is very dangerous if this happens during driving and the rear passengers are not fastened by seat belts
