When my wife was driving the cx5, the car down shifted at 40 miles an hour to the lower gear. She gave it more gas and it just whined and would not accelerate any faster. She then moved to the right lane and turned down a side street and slowed down. That is when it seemed to engage and get a normal response with the gas pedal and transmission.
