I lost the tread on my tire on hwy 77 North of statesville, nc. Zack's towing towed my car to his shop. Terry, the owner, said I needed to replace the other front tire so he put on two new tires. Both 215/65/15 one with dot H29xypo1 4803 and the other dot H29ypo1 4304. Not the correct size and old tires. Contacted terry, he spoke with my step daughter and said we were full of "crap" about asking for a refund and issues with the tires and safety. The tires are sitting at my stepdaughter's house, for I had new tires put on before traveling back to Florida- I did not feel safe at all. I just lost my husband and I am 70 years old, I don't think it is right to be taken advantage of and creating a possible safety issue at my age or any age.

While parked in the driveway consumer noticed that the right front tire was flat. The tire was taken to a tire dealership, who indicated that the tire needed to be replaced because it had worn out on one side, and had a big grove in it. The tire was replaced with a different model tire with the same grade. A week later, the same problem occurred on the rear of driver's side tire, and the other two tires had started wearing the same way. The other tires were taken to a tire retail store, technician indicated that the manufacturer put the wrong size tires on the van, and that they were aware of it. These tires were not adequate for the weight of the van. Also, dealer indicated that this was a common problem, and manufacturer was replacing these 92S tires with 94sa.

While driving at 70 mph, the left front tire tread separated and the right front tire developed a knot in the sidewall. Both tires had over 50 % tread left at time of failure. The service dealership indicated that both failures were due to a manufacturing defect. The vehicle experienced three tire failures.

Both front tires (inside edge) worn out around half the circumference of the tire. The front tires worn out prematurely with the treads showing separations about an inch long from edges where treads meet the sidewall. The steel belts could be seen from the one-inch separation. Car dealer service manager could not figure out what caused the premature wear.. the vehicle tires have been rotated and balanced according to maintenance schedule. Contacted tire manufacturer and referred to a local dunlop dealer. Tire dealer concluded that tires were not rotated. My brother- in- lawS MPV 2000 with 25K miles experienced the same tire wear (the brand of tires he had was yokohama), but much more severe damage with longer tread separation causing the tires to lose most of the air. My comment is, could this be a car problem (suspension), and not the tire? I am thankful that these tires did not blow up at high speeds. Who knows how many more out there are not being reported. Thank you for taking the time to read about my problem and hope to hear from the NHTSA soon.

Belt runout with one tire. This may be related to recall - 00V113001. Mazda claims tires meet 94 load rating. However, the early failure of a tire leads me to think that the tires are too small and do not meet the 94 load rating. Also, the labels issued by Mazda say to use a replacement tire that is a 205/65 15 94S and inflate it to 35 psi. This is wrong. Only 3 tires are available in that size with a load rating of 94. They all require you to inflate the tires to 44 psi or greater. This is a serious safety issue. Mazda is suggesting owners under-inflate the tires by 9 to 16 psi. The standard tire rating for a 205/65 15 is a 1992. (tiresize: 205/65 15)

All four yokohama Y376 tires were completely bald, absolutely no tread was left although the tire had been rotated as described in the owners manual, the tires were expected to last only 25000, had a tread rating of only 200 and a sidewall rating of only 92S, the consumer is disappointed that the manufacturer would equip this vehicle with inferior tires, the vehicle was still covered by the original equipment warranty but since they purchased a different brand tire the warranty was not honored, the consumer is requesting reimbursement. Tires are wearing badly on outside edge. I have kept tires inflated to 35 psi (their maximum limit). I first noticed this when I had the tire rotated-the rear tires were worn, the front ones were not. Now that four months have elapsed since last rotation, I see the same wear pattern on the rear tires (which were the front tires prior to rotation). These same tires had normal wear prior to rotation. I had to alignment checked and was told by an independent tire shop that the alignment was well within tolerances-this was done July 28, 2001. Fairway Mazda does not consider this to be a warranty or defect issue since the brunt is on me to prove that I have faithfully kept tire pressure at 35 psi. I have a 1984 Honda Prelude that has three year old tires, has its tires rotated alot less frequently, and is aligned less frequently and its tires are wearing normally and evenly and I check the tire pressure as often or less than I do the Mazda. Based on this, I believe there to be a defect either in the tires or the van. Thank you for your help. (dot number: Fd9lnhl229 tiresize: P205/65R15)
