I have a 2005 Mazda RX-8. In May of 2017 my clutch pedal when depressed was making a squeak noise and would stay about an inch off the floor. I would have to pull it back up with my foot manually. The next day when driving I depressed the clutch pedal to downshift and stop at a red light and the pedal mount broke and went to the floor. I was lucky enough to force the car out of gear and get it stopped without being involved in a accident.

I had the car towed into the local Mazda dealership where I also had to have some recall work done (air bags replaced, fuel tank insulator installed, re-program PCM for emission's). I knew thru my own research that there was clutch pedal problems with the RX-8's, but no re-call was issued. The service person informed me that I would have to pay for the replacement pedal assembly and the labor to install it. He quoted me a price of $329.42, all the recall work would be at no charge.

The mileage on the car at that time was 108,500, I figured they would be installing a better built, reinforced pedal assembly. That was 10 months ago. The car now has 12,500 more miles on it and that pedal assembly is coming apart and not working properly. The mileage now is 121,104. I think this should be a recall item. Not only is it dangerous to drive on the road, I see on the internet a lot more bad units are out there. I will hopefully be able to get it to the dealership for repairs with out having it towed. I hope they install a better built assembly this time, and install it at no charge. Should not have broke in 10-months with only 12,000 miles on it anyway. I will let you all know how I make out !!
