Ref recall 08V690000. Why would our truck not be part of this recall?. we live in an area which is surrounded by ocean so salt corrosion is common. I know several others that have similar issue not only Frontiers. I understand the front crash sensor corrosion is common. Please do something about this before someone gets hurt due to airbags or deploying due to this common sensor issue.

On the 22nd of July 2016, my 2008 Nissan Frontier deployed both sides of its curtain airbags. I was traveling at roughly 3-5 mph on freest road 618 outside of camp verde, Arizona. The road had a slight inclin of maybe 1-2%, with slightly muddy ground due to it raining. My Frontiers front left tire rolled onto a rounded rock no taller than 4-5 inches tall and slipped off of it to the left. The slipping off of the rock was when the curtain airbags deployed. I was in the drivers seat driving the vehicle and my little brother was in the passenger seat. My little brother suffered a rug burn like scrape on his neck where the bag impacted him. There are no signs of impact anywhere on the truck which was confirmed by a Nissan dealership service dept.

One day, all of the sudden, the flashing red airbag indicator light started flashing on the dash. I noticed there is major safety recall on my vehicle model and year for this exact problem, I've called the dealer where I bought this truck new, bill rapp Nissan, syracuse, NY and another local dealer, burdick Nissan, North syracuse, NY and they both indicated that my vehicle is not on their vehicle recall list. My understanding of this recall is that their is very serious safety concerns that, if in an accident, potentially my airbags would not deploy.

The local Nissan dealership diagnosed an airbag flashing light on the dash as a faulty seat belt retractor at about 33,000 miles and took corrective action. They insisted that the problem was fixed and said that it is now covered under parts warranty. Over the next 15,000 to 20,000 miles the fixed it two more times as a seat belt retractor, however the last time the light began to blink I took the vehicle and they gave me a new cause of the light. I was then told it was the passenger seat air bag sensor and that it was faulty and that it would cost me 1200 dollars to fix. I know that Nissan has recent problems with air bags and in the past there has been a recall on the East coast concerning Frontier airbags. I would guess that Nissan Corp. Has larger issue with air bags and has been covering their tracks for years. I know I can't afford the $1200 repair bill to fix the problem and that now I am reluctant to have a passenger in the seat. I doubt that your Agency will have a remedy for this problem, as I have little faith in an Agency of government taking on a corporation as large as Nissan.

The passenger seat airbag sensor will not register a passenger in the seat properly and is causing the airbag disabled light to illuminate on the dashboard, indicating the airbag will not deploy in an accident. This is an ongoing issue. It has been documented twice with the dealer, and once with the manufacturer who is refusing to escalate the issue.

The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Frontier. While driving 50 mph, the air bags deployed without a crash. The air bag indicator illuminated immediately after all the air bags (front, rear, and the ones near the sunroof) deployed. The manufacturer stated that an air bag technician would call him. The contact feels that the dealer was giving him the run around. The vehicle never lost power when the failure occurred and the vehicle was still at his residence. The contact sustained minor neck and back pains, in addition to facial burns from the air bags. The failure and current mileages were 22,000.
