While driving my 2012 Nissan Leaf at 40 mph, it simply shut down. After numerous delays at the dealership it was finally determined that the electric motor would have to be replaced. This was after I had replaced the vehicle control module, the integrated power distribution module and the power invertor. The total cost to replace all parts was going to be $12,000 US. I had purchased used parts to replace the first three but gave up on repairing the vehicle as the electric motor is $6000 for that part alone.
This was a catastrophic failure with no history of accident or previous repairs. it was 5 months out of warranty and Nissan said they couldn't do anything. Words can not describe the frustration and bitterness. The dealership was not able to properly diagnose the problem and in hindsight probably not trained to deal with this massive failure.
