The passenger bag error light on the dashboard and in the instrument cluster is on. I was told by Daytona Nissan that it would cost 208.00 to diagnose and if it was repaired by them they would waive the diagnostic charge. In researching the problem, I find the seat must be replaced in all probability because the seat sensors go bad and the sensor is buried in the seat. Mark at Daytona Nissan told me there was no way to tell what was wrong without the 208 dollar diagnostic, which I feel is out of line, and can' t afford anyway, let alone 2 or 3 grand.

The repair is a 3,000 dollar seat replacement… No thank you this is a rip off by Nissan, and is a safety issue, which is their lacking, and furthermore this is not news to Nissan as it has been going on for some some years and has not been rectified by a safety recall.

HAVING THE SENSOR GO OUT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT SEEMS TO BE A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM GIVEN ALL THE RECALLS ON OTHER NISSAN'S. MY LIGHT STARTED BLINKING AT THE TIME MY INSPECTION WAS DUE, AND GUESS WHAT? IT FAILED! SO NOW I AM FORCED TO HAVE IT FIXED AND THE ONLY ONES THAT FIX THIS PROBLEM IS THE DEALERSHIP.

THIS AIR BAG SENSOR PROBLEM IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD AND NISSAN SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR FIXING IT. OF COURSE, IF THEY DID THAT THEY WOULDN'T MAKE $2,000 FOR EVERY PASSENGER SEAT REPLACED BECAUSE THAT IS THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THE PROBLEM. ALSO, IF THIS SENSOR IS MALFUNCTIONING AND THE ENTIRE PASSENGER SEAT HAS TO BE REPLACED TO FIX IT, THAT IS A FACTORY DEFECT AND NISSAN SHOULD STEP UP AND FIX THE PROBLEM AT THEIR EXPENSE, NOT MINE!

SOME PEOPLE DON'T HAVE TO HAVE THEIRS FIXED BUT I HAVE NO CHOICE BECAUSE OF THE FAILED INSPECTION FOR SOMETHING I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CONTROL OVER. IF THERE WERE NO OTHER COMPLAINTS I COULD SEE NOT MAKING IT A "RECALL" ISSUE BUT THERE ARE TONS OF COMPLAINTS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG MALFUNCTION ON ALL YEARS AND MAKES OF NISSAN CARS. ALL THE COMPLAINTS ALONE SHOULD GET SOMEONE'S ATTN AT NISSAN. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND NISSAN IS RESPONSIBLE!

I bought a lease return 2011 Nissan Rogue in November 2013. I paid for the "top of the line" extended warranty. The horn on my vehicle stopped working and the air bag indicator was flashing so I brought it in for service. I was told that it would cost $150 to diagnose the issue to which I replied that I had bought a warranty and wasn't expecting to be charged. The service rep. agreed. He called me back in a few hours and told me that the horn would be covered but the airbag wasn't and the part that was broken was the "spiral cable" which cost $900 and that was the part that wasn't covered. I disagreed that it wasn't covered and did not proceed with the very expensive repairs. I was told that the horn could not be fixed without fixing the airbag for $1,500 (est. total). (At this point I have been driving in a very busy Urban setting with no horn and no airbag). I called Nissan Canada and asked why the part wasn't covered by warranty when according to the booklet that I have on my warranty it should be. I was told that it was an "air bag controller" and therefore not covered. While it's true that the airbag is not covered and I agree, the spiral cable actually provides electrical signals to the airbag, horn, cruise control and all the other buttons on the steering wheel. Nissan Canada was not helpful at all so I attempted to call the dealership and speak to the Service Manager. After a couple of days of phone tag he called me back and gave me an entirely different story about what was wrong with my vehicle and commiserated with me about the price of parts and 'isn't it too bad', etc. He told me that the airbag module was giving an error message and the actual physical switch in the steering wheel for the horn was broken, neither of which were covered by warranty. I told him that I was still not sure what my next steps would be but I would call him back.

Further investigation on the internet has shown me that other manufacturers (Toyota, GM) have had issues with their clock springs (spiral cable) and have recalled the vehicles as it's a safety issue. Interestingly the issues that other manufacturers have had are all around the same model years, leading me to believe that there was a production issue at some point.

When I pointed this out to Nissan they were unapologetic and firm in their stance that they would not cover the part. This isn't a part that has failed because of my neglect, it has failed because it wasn't installed properly in the first place and Nissan expects me to pay for their error. I have reported this issue to Transport Canada because it's dangerous.
