CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013-2017 Nissan Sentra has an expensive CVT transmission failure defect that shows up plainly in our complaint data.

In late 2019, the CVT defect was subject to a class action settlement. However the settlement only covers transmission repairs up to 7 years after purchase or 84,000 miles (whichever occurs first).

Because many owners commonly drive 20,000 miles/year or more, Sentra owners experiencing CVT transmission problems may find they are not covered by this settlement due to the mileage limitation.

Randomly the passenger airbag would illuminate. Even with passenger in seat. Unable to determine repair. Dealer said my wife must have been sitting in the seat incorrectly. Apparently living on earth 30+ years we haven't figured out how to sit properly in a car? Traded car in for 2015 Altima.

Sentra SR 1.8L, 4 cyl

  • CVT transmission
  • 8,880 miles

The passenger airbag sensor almost never detects a passenger when they enter the car after it has been running. Everyday I pick up my niece to take her to school. When she gets in the airbag is off and the only way to get it to turn on is to turn the car off and restart. If I wait to start the car when the passenger is already in the seat it always works correctly. But NEVER works correctly if the passenger gets in the car after it is already running. This happens every day.

Sentra SV

I bought this car 10/24/2014 with 6700 miles on it; Certified Pre-owned. Noticed the passenger airbag sensor light was not illuminated with an adult passenger. I looked it up and realized it was a recall issue from March. You would think the dealership would check recalls on a Certified vehicle. I'm taking it in next week.
