CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013-2017 Nissan Sentra has an expensive CVT transmission failure defect that shows up plainly in our complaint data from the earlier model years in this same 7th generation Sentra.

In late 2019, the CVT defect was subject to a class action settlement. However the settlement only covers transmission repairs up to 7 years after purchase or 84,000 miles (whichever occurs first).

Because many owners commonly drive 20,000 miles/year or more, Sentra owners experiencing CVT transmission problems may find they are not covered by this settlement due to the mileage limitation.

The engine light is on, every time I step on my gas it jerks back speed is slow also especially driving up hill makes it slower. I get leakage of oil when I just gotten oil changed not to long ago. I'm afraid my Nissan Sentra will lose engine power anytime soon.

While driving it rattles, picks up speed very slowly, when stepping on gas it takes a long time to speed up which is dangerous because other traffic can hit me from behind. Makes weird noise every time I step on gas and is going 30 mph. Having difficulty when trying to reverse. I was at a stop and it wouldn't move forward or reverse I had to ask for help to push the car out of the street. Was told that it's the transmission. It's only been 6 months I bought the car and it has 70,000 miles.

The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Sentra. While driving between 65-70 mph, the vehicle decelerated independently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (Nissan of North olmstead, located at 28500 lorain road, North olmstead, Ohio 44070) to be diagnosed, but the mechanic was unable to produce a fault code or duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 51,000.

The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Sentra. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced unintended acceleration. When the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle did not respond. Also, the vehicle hesitated to accelerate from a complete stop. The failures occurred without warning and were intermittent. The dealer could not duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000.

I was trying to accelerate on the freeway but car was not accelerating, only staying at the same speed. I kept trying and the accelerator would not accelerate so I had to keep the throttle fully depressed to maintain speed. Very scary

Beginning a week ago, the vehicle has spontaneously slowed without warning, at various speeds, and disengages the cruise control. This has happened on the interstate while cruising along at 65 mph, when pulling out of a parking lot at 5 mph, and everywhere in between. The accelerator becomes unresponsive until you take your foot completely off and try to depress again (sometimes it takes 2 or 3 times). This has happened once while driving, then it is fine for the rest of the trip (hours), as well as continuously throughout a trip. The Nissan dealership said they couldn't fix it because there were no error codes and they could not reproduce the problem by test driving. After the first trip to the dealership, I noticed a correlation between when it is raining and the frequency of the problem. When the wipers have been turned on while the cruise control is on, the car disengages the cruise control and slows, with an unresponsive accelerator. Also, the "slippery road" icon appears on the dash board when the road is dry and spontaneously disengages the cruise control. This is a very dangerous issue, especially when attempting to pull out into traffic, merge onto the interstate, navigate hills, or just driving with other vehicles behind you. I will call the dealership again tomorrow morning now that there seems to be a connection with the vdc (vehicle dynamic control) system and see if they can pinpoint the issue now. Should I just leave my new car parked in the garage and not be able to drive it ever again? maybe I can use it for a planter.

Our Sentra has a cvt. It currently has less than 7,500 miles on the odometer. On three (3) occasions, the transmission has failed to upshift as we moved away from a stop at a traffic light. At 30 mph or less, the tach is at 4,000 RPM. We have to find a safe place to pull the vehicle to the side of the road, put the trans selection lever in park and then restart our journey. We have taken the vehicle to the Nissan dealer who told us that there was no problem......no computer error or malfunction. We contacted Nissan usa and were told the same thing. The transmission of the computer controlling it has a problem. Dates of problems: 3/20/2016; 5/20/2016; 5/25/2016

I was driving home and I had this problem twice yesterday on the highway driving about 65 mph pushed the gas pedal to the max and the car doesn't speed up the car started to slow down so I started to push the gas pedal more to speed up. Even that I pushed the pedal as far as possible the car did not speed up. I pull over on the right shoulder of the highway turn off the car and turn on again car then the car acted normally. I got home call the Nissan dealer and they told me to bring the car when I get there and the technician at the dealer do the analysis told me no codes been detected by the computer at the service dep. But he knows because I have one of my tail light crack there is a sensor that send info to the computer and that's why my car lose all the power in the acceleration. But he knows is the crack on the tail light and I need to change the light asap. I can be in a huge accident because of this sensor on the lights and is ridiculous car slow down but is not any light on at the dashboard of the car advising something is wrong with the car. If this is not bring to the Nissan im going to get a lawyer because is my life in risk if this happen again.

While approaching a red traffic light it turned green and I accellerated to the road speed of 40 mph. The next traffic light turned red and I took my foot off the gas pedal but it didn't come up and release, the car continued to go. I used my brake and slowed the vehicle to a stop. The light changed and the gas pedal was still stuck down. I made a left turn as I know that road is long and would get me out of traffic. In the middle of the turn I heard and felt a loud pop and the gas pedal finally released allowing me to brake properly and stop the vehicle. Had my newly licensed 17 year old been driving, he would have had an accident. There needs to be a recall to see why this car's gas pedal won't release!! I am waiting for a tow truck now.
