The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Titan. The contact stated that the ABS braking system failed without warning. The ABS warning light was illuminated when the failure occurred. The contact stated that the vehicle had to be turned on and off in order for the brakes to work properly. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the vdc unit needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 85,000. Updated 1/29/13 the consumer stated the manufacturer was contacted and offered to pay for one third of all repairs for the vdc and safety restraint system. However, the consumer is in disagreement because all items request for repair pose a significant safety concern. Updated 2/7/2013
While attempting to stop the vehicle at an intersection the brakes failed. The "brake" light came on, it made a grinding noise and I had no brakes. I took the vehicle to my mechanic and after checking the computer for embedded codes he found two code failures (C1104 & C1179). I have googled these problems and it seems that many other Nissan armada and Titan owners have had the same problems. This is a serious problem and Nissan needs to issue a recall before someone is killed.
The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Titan. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, he depressed the brake pedal which was hesitant to respond. The contact had to apply extreme pressure to the brake pedal in order to stop the vehicle. Also, the emergency brake engaged on its own intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that there was an axle failure. The contact mentioned that there was a manufacture recall for a brake failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 93,000.
While replacing lifetime warrantied suspension which was not honored by Nissan or tenneco, I found the rear pinion seal to be leaking severely, and rear axle seal leaking in wheel assembly. Possible source of "ticking" noise from differential, which until then I thought were exhaust heat shields. This condition could cause catastrophic drivetrain failure while vehicle is in motion. The fluid leaking from axle seal can reduce effectiveness of braking components. Other owners have described inadequate engineering & possible use of substandard differential materials & components along with axle vent assemblies which could create internal pressure conditions that could cause seals to fail.
When driving down a residential road, the brake light illuminated for no apparent reason. Then, when slowing to turn, brakes shuddered violently and did not feel as if they would succeed in stopping the vehicle. I slowed enough to turn, then proceeded slowly to make 2 more immediate turns before reaching my house. The brakes shuddered and were not 100% effective each time the pedal was pressed. Fluid levels are normal, brake components look good. After turning truck off and back on, problem was not able to be replicated. However, after doing online research, this appears to be a known issue that the manufacturer has as yet refused to address, even though it could lead to collisions and fatalities.

The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Titan. The contact was driving 45 mph when the brake warning light illuminated. The contact abnormally depressed the brake pedal into the floorboard but the vehicle failed to respond. The anti-lock braking system also activated erroneously but was the only functioning brake system on the vehicle at the time. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised the contact that the computer needed to be reset. The computer was reset however failure recurred three weeks later. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and offered to assistance with the contact with the cost of the computer reset. The current and the failure mileage was 106,771.
2004 Nissan Titan truck - rear axle seals are leaking so badly oil is getting on the rear brake rotors causing them to be in-operative. This is a very serious problem experienced by many Titan owners as shown with a simple internet search.
I too have2004 Titan whit brake problem, warnin light comes on pedel gose to floor.replace brake disk and inspeted all brake parts problem keep comeing back after severl days. Nissan need to do a recall before someone is killed.
While driving on the road, I pressed the brake pedal to avoid hitting the rear end of another car while it was stopped to make a turn. Without warning, the pedal went to the floor and the ABS unit came on as well as the "brake" warning light. I had to pull off the road to avoid hitting the car in front of me. The pedal action continued until I could get off the road safely. When stopped I checked the brake fluid and it was at the max line on the reservoir. As a mechanic, I later checked the vehicle for codes stored. It was found to have code "C1179" indicating a possible delta stroke sensor/signal fault. This has happened twice with this truck. Luckily, the first time, no one was in front of me. I really am concerned that this type of fault could seriously injure any occupant(s) in either vehicle or possibly a pedestrian. It may prove to be fatal in any case. One possible fix could be to allow the ABS unit to be turned off when code "C1179" occurs. Thank you for your time.
