axle leaking fluids

05 Nissan Titan XE; had a rear passenger rear axle leak. You can notice the leak on the back of the brake. The reason why it failed was because the breather valve on the top of the axle housing(passenger side) was clogged. Even if you change out the axle seal and don't change out the breather, you will run into the same problem. With the axle seal worn, there was a lot of debris in the axle housing. I had to clean all the dirt in there because it went into the bearing and splines at the end of the axle causing an awful noise while driving that I had to immediately pull over. You do have to get a grinder to cut off bearing and a chisel and hammer to get it off according to the Nissan OEM repair manual. And make sure you know someone with a hydraulic press to get it pressed on in order.

I am finding that many Titan owners have experienced this problem and Nissan has redesigned the part indicating that they are aware of the defect. Nissan should step up and do a recall on the flawed design.

This is a critical part and can result in a serious crash. Very disappointed that Nissan is not standing behind this as this is my third Nissan vehicle and have always had good luck with them but will not buy another until/unless they fix this known issue.
