Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

NHTSA — Exterior Lighting Problems

2009 Pontiac G6 (Page 4 of 7)

CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2009 is starting to have the same problems as previous model years, including the headlights blowing out due to bad connectors.

The wiring harness connections aren't a big deal to replace, as long as your dealer or mechanic doesn't charge you an arm & a leg to "diagnose" the problem.

Blown headlight Pontiac G6 2009 passenger-side front (low beam) headlight blew out September 2013. New bulbs were purchased and both bulbs were installed. In March 2014, the low beam headlight on passenger-side was no longer working again. I contacted the bulb manufacturer, thinking it was a defective bulb. I received replacement headlight bulbs from bulb manufacturer on Wednesday, April 2, 2014. Second set of bulbs were installed on Friday, April 4, 2014. By Monday, April 7, 2014, the passenger-side low beam light was no longer working again. In search of answers as to why the bulb would stop working so quickly, I contacted the bulb manufacturer and spoke with a customer service representative. Their position is the problem does not rest with their product. I also contacted and spoke with the mechanic at auto service center where replacement bulbs were installed. The mechanic informed me the headlight bulb blow out may be related to a problem with bulb "connector". I tried to contact General Motors in writing regarding this matter on Tuesday, April 8, 2014. However, the only option was via a form on their website which did not work once you hit 'submit'. I will try again. I would like this matter reviewed and resolved as soon as possible. I am out of money for the initial part as well as the labor for the installations. Also, my drive-time is pretty much confined to daylight hours (unless I use the high-beams) to avoid getting a traffic ticket; and that is assuming it is not a stormy day at which time headlights are needed for safe driving. Thank you.

Rear passenger door will not lock/unlock. Heater on front passenger seat will not work. Tire service monitor comes on randomly. Cruise control works intermittently, but does not work more often than it does. Loud, rubbing noise coming from steering column when making turns. Low beam headlights work intermittently (got stopped by a policeman and warned of a citation the next time I would get stopped). I had one bulb changed. Two weeks later it went out, but the bulb was not burnt. Then, it started working again. A month or so later the other one went out. I had both wiring harnesses changed and new bulbs put in. Recently, I was told I had a burnt headlight (low beam again). I have been stopped on the interstate to be told that my brakes were flashing (while driving) and then they were working opposite of what they should be (brake lights on while driving and off while braking). I have seen other Pontiac G6's with the same issue. This is a very dangerous issue in my opinion as I could easily be rear-ended due to faulty brakes. I have read similar issues by other Pontiac G6 owners. Will recalls be issued for any of these issues? I am a single parent and do not have money to pour into this car so most of it stays broken! sad considering I paid over $26K for this car and still owe over $10,000, yet it's worth probably $7,000. I can't even sell it with these issues!!! I would love to travel, but I don't even feel safe in this car any longer.

Connectors on headlights burnt out, seems to be a common problem on forums and message boards. Low beam lights are intermittently working, passenger light stays out, connector burnt.

My 2009 Pontiac G6 low beam head light problem began a few days ago. My drivers side low beam went out, so I bought a new one and put it in only for my wife to call me at 5:30 this morning to tell me both the lights went out on her as she was driving to work. How safe is this" I can't get them to work and I don't know what to do. I tried replacing them again at $25 a piece and they still don't work.this seems to be a problem with this car as I see it posted all over the internet. Can we get a recall or something or does it take a few deaths before someone will investigate"

I purchased this car in summer 2013. It was fine for a couple months then the cruise control started going out and the ESC and traction control would code at the same time. I searched on the internet and found the GM service bulletin that said to remove the connectors from the computer and apply dialectic grease due to corrosion. This would work 30 to 60 days then I would have to apply more grease. Before christmas I was driving home at night and noticed that my brake lights were stuck on. I found that this would often happen at the same time that the other problems would code and other times the brake lights would just come on. I have applied grease several times this winter and it doesn't work anymore. The ESC and traction control code at random times, and the cruise control becomes inoperable. The air bag light is now on and stays on. These are all annoying but the issue that scares me is the brake lights coming on at random times when I don't touch the brake pedal. That is obviously unsafe and I would hope that GM would step up and fix it. They wouldn't have issued the service bulletin if they didn't know there was a problem, and the dealership I purchased it from had smeared the connectors heavy with grease so they must have read the service bulletin too.

The contact owns a 2009 Pontiac G6. The contact stated that the brake light remained illuminated. Additionally, the cruise control function would disengage and engage independently. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed. The manufacture advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 09V036000 exterior lighting. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 105,000.

I have 2009 Pontiac and I have replaced the headlight like five times still doesn't work were I live I see alot of the same car with the same problem. I already had the latch for shifter replaced cause it went out while I was driving seeing all the things that can go wrong as the post of everybody with headlight brakes the engine I think the whole car should be recall before alot of people get hurt its a death trap all kind of things wrong with this car and in this day and time people don't have the money to keep fixing a car that has so many problems not by wear and tear but by not properly putting it together my car was 16,000 dollars and to pay that much and have so many problems is ridiculous.

I drive a Pontiac G6.. my brake lights just come on when ever they want. I have had it fixed by a dealer before, but can't afford to keep taking it back in. It has happen to my car 4 times in the last year. We have been using the a fix found on the internet but that doesn't work for long. As I drive 40 min. To and from work each day I fear that this is happening and could cause an accident. I also have seen many other G6's with the same problem while I'm driving. Please recall all for everyone's safety.

Low beam light on both the driver & passenger sides keep going out. I keep replacing and immediately they go out. Bulbs were not burnt out. Every once in a while, while driving my headlights will randomly come on and go off again. The metal in the connectors are fried. I have researched and read multiple reports of the same issue that this is a wiring problem and a fire hazard. Something needs to be done about this before someone gets hurt or there is a fatal accident. Not only is this a fire hazard, but intermittently working headlights could cause accidents if randomly going out. It is clearly a safety hazard and Pontiac should be held accountable for this problem.

While operating vehicle, brake lights work the opposite of what they should. They are on when the pedal is not depressed and go off when the pedal is depressed. I spent ~$300 having the brake pedal position sensor diagnosed and it turns out that the BCM (body control module) has corrosion and required dielectric paste to correct the issue. Approximately 14 months later the problem returned and I had a mechanic check for recall and he found a tech bulletin describing exactly this maintenance procedure. They performed it and the problem was corrected but this needs to be 100% corrected as someone is going to get killed. Searching forums online I see that this problem is far more common that one would think and this should be addressed immediately.

I have a 2009 Pontiac G6 GT. Since the time that we have bought our car we have had nothing but problems with the passenger side headlight. We have replaced the pigtails and all the wiring. We replaced the bulb every few weeks for it to only burn out a few days later. No one can tell us why this problem can not be fixed. There have been hundreds maybe thousand of complaints on online forums about headlight problems and even fire and melting of the housing. I am constantly pulled over due to the headlight being out. This is an extremely dangerous issue that needs to be addressed. Without properly working headlights people are going to get seriously injured or kill someone because we can't see properly.

Less than a month ago I replaced my passenger side headlight. This week it went out again. I have already had to replace the driver side light about three times. I bought this car brand new. I changed the fuse for the headlight and it did not solve the issue. Two days ago my tail light stopped working. The following day it worked in the morning and stopped working in the afternoon. After finding so many complaints on different forums online I'm not sure how GM can not be recalling these vehicles for this problem. I have already gotten pulled over and told that I would be cited the next time. I am afraid that the driver side headlight will go out before I can get the passenger side fixed. Oh yes and my lock chamber on my passenger side back door has gone out. I had the driver side back door fixed when my car was under warranty however, I am on a tight budget and cannot afford to pay over $300 for the dealership to fix this. Apparently this is also a problem with the G6. I am nervous to drive my car (that is not even 5 years old mind you) at night!

Drivers side low beam light went out. I replaced and a week later it went out again. I replaced that one and about two weeks later it went out again. Both replaced bulbs were not burnt out. The low beams both work when I remote start my vehicle. Once I get in and turn on the key with the vehicle already running, the headlight goes out. Every once in a while, while driving, my headlights will randomly come on and go off again.
