Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Please take a moment & say thank you by donating $5 or whatever you can to the Center for Auto Safety.

CarComplaints.com Notes: The Toyota Matrix is the mechanical twin of the Pontiac Vibe.

Both models were a joint GM-Toyota venture, manufactured together at a NUMMI production facility in Fremont, CA. Only the heating & A/C systems are different.

Some Toyota matrix's have a recall on the spiral cable, not mine. It has been out for 3 years, I can't get Toyota to even research my claim as they state that my car doesn't fit their recall profile.

Toyota airbag recall case #[xxx] **/13/15: Had to drive 135 miles with 72 yr old vietnam vet business partner crammed in back seat amongst other cargo during a business trip.*** must operate vehicle with passenger in car for business 85% of usage time. Otherwise I cannot run my business!! Toyota refuses to provide me with a solution or a rental until solution is available. They want me to put my 72 yr old vietnam vet business partner in back seat with fully loaded cargo rather than help me fix the airbag problem. They absolutely refuse to help me. This is wrong. I cannot operate my vehicle for business without my business partner. Toyota will not provide me with any workaround, nor any solution, in any timely manner. But yet they tell me I cannot operate my vehicle safely as I need to do to continue running my business. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

We have been trying to resolve this safety issue for the last few years to no avail. This letter is in response to your 1/31/15 report re: The electronic components for the above named car. Toyota has been arguing that this problem is our responsibility and not theirs. But based on your latest report, it seems that we are correct in holding them responsible for repairing it. Over the last few years we have had this car into different Toyota dealers in response to air bag system electronic component recalls. To date our vehicle has not been prepared properly. The air bag warning light remains on, which leads to our concern that the air bag system is defective. The dealers and Toyota corporation indicate that this is not part of the recall, but we believe otherwise. If the recall was due to a faulty electronic component air bag system and the dealers were supposed to have repaired it, then why does it persist?? we believe Toyota is responsible for this problem and would like it repaired once and for all by Toyota, as it is a potentially dangerous safety issue and I do not want my family to become another fatality statistic.

Has been in for repair since Nov 2014 and no sign of getting fixed. Toyota will refuse to provide loaner car after Feb 23, 2015 but refused to give me a letter saying my car was safe to drive. Today I received a letter saying to keep passengers in the back seat - that this their solution. They still try to deny that humidity is not a proven cause since incidents have occurred out of humid areas. I listened to the hearings and the Toyota representative said they don not know the cause but still they are forcing me to begin driving the car again at the end of Feb 2015.

I took the car in to the grossinger Toyota service center in Chicago to have the airbags changed as per the NHTSA nationwide recall: www.NHTSA.gov/about+NHTSA/press+releases/dot-calls-for-national-recall-of-takata-driver-air-bags they told me it was in an "interim" stage and couldn't do anything.

I want you to be aware of this email below I just sent to Toyota with a safety complainant. "hello customer service rep, I am contacting you regarding the air system on my Matrix and I had many recalls/ repairs during the last few years first replacing the air harness in March of 2013. Then replacing the passenger air bag inflator in August 2014 and then replacing the driver side bag in early October 2014. Last replacing the center airbag senor assembly in mid October 2014. All these items were covered under safety recalls except the driver side airbag which cost me $1196.69 which I was told it had to be replaced because it was inoperative. I think this should be covered under a safety recall and you give me a refund of $1196.69 so could you tell me why this is not under a safety recall? thank you, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

There has been a recall on the front passenger airbag inflator module. Despite several notices and a federal reminder to have this fixed as a customer, Toyota as a company has no remedy as of yet. All paperwork states "any authorized Toyota dealer can inspect and, if necessary, replace the airbag inflator module...please contact any authorized Toyota dealer dealer to schedule an appointment to have the remedy performed as soon as possible." After making this appointment and leaving my car overnight, I was told there was no remedy available. After calling Toyota, they said that at this time the only solution is to not allow a passenger to ride in your car. This defeats the purpose of a car. If you have notated an issue and want to alert the public and have us all take time off to have the issues fixed, then why wasn't there a "fix" in place. It seems as though they can replace the entire airbag inflator module to fix the problem, but they are not wanting to take on that cost, which puts me and my family/friends in danger. This is ultimately frustrating, inconvenient, and dangerous. This is an extremely libelous situation.
