I bought a 2003 Toyota Matrix on reputation alone. The car has a manual transmission, which went out completely after whining and grinding noises for about a month. I tried, like others, to have the fluid changed but, again like others, to no avail. A loud rattling sound occurred and it finally stopped cold, and I mean cold in November 2008. I could not afford to fix it until 2009. It cost $4500.00 for a new transaxel, transmission and clutch.
The #@*& thing is making that same noise again and that means more money for a reportedly dependable Toyota.
I'm done, I am trading the car before it falls completely apart on me. "Toyota, sales down, problems making profits, maybe if you admitted failure when it occurred you would have customers who remained loyal to you. So long and good bye.
