Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

My 2006 Toyota Prius drivers side headlight goes out completely. It turns on when first engaging the light switch and turns off when in transit. It will relight after I turn the lights off and then back on again. My dealership has stated there is no issue with my headlights and provided me an inspection sticker for the vehicle. I need this issue to be fixed.

The headlights flicker and then go out. It is necessary to turn off all lights and then turn them back on. The same thing happens after a short period of time. This happens when the car is moving and I have been pulled over because I was unaware that the lights were out while driving in the city.

The headlights turn off after anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes of driving. When I turn them off and on, they come on again. This has been happening for years. Now I learn that it is a common problem with priuses from 2006-2009. Would like Toyota to recall these.

The driver's side front headlight goes off randomly. The problem is usually "fixed" by turning the light off and then back on, but that one light goes out again, sometimes 30 seconds later, sometimes an hour later.

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Prius. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the reverse light, the indicator light and the odometer and speedometer lights did not illuminate. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the combination meter needed to be repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000.

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Prius. Upon starting the vehicle and turning on the headlights, the contact noticed that the passenger side low beam headlight would not illuminate. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000.

Headlights, one or both, randomly go out while I am driving. I had the dealer look at it a year ago and they said there was nothing wrong. It continues to happen and is really scary when I discover that I am driving without lights on a busy highway. I am now taking to an independent mechanic to fix the problem. This is clearly a safety issue!

One of the headlights worked sporadically. It happened the same day I purchased the car used from a Toyota dealership, but I didn't notice it right away because it was daytime. The next day I went to the service department and they said I needed to replace the hid bulb which costs $300!!!!! after complaining to the dealership they replaced it at no charge, but I am concerned that this might be a recurring problem. I don't know if they replaced any associated parts or not, since the invoice they gave me just listed "engine elecrical concern" without an itemized list.

This is my second Prius and both have been excellent except for the headlights on this one. It is a 2006 with hid lights. The driver's side headlight always comes on in the morning when I leave for work, but it started going off after several miles (maybe 20-30, or so). This first started happening about October, 2013. It has progressively gotten worse until the headlight now goes off in only a few miles (5 - 10). Interestingly, the headlight seemed to stay on longer during the colder weather (around zero degrees) this winter. Other than checking for a loose connection, I have not tried to have the headlight repaired or replaced. It certainly needs to be because driving in the winter darkness is a safety concern. Thank you.

I have been having problems with the hid headlights since I bought this car. It's not the bulbs, there is some computer problem that is recurring. I think they need to recall this car and fix the problem.

The headlights of the 2006 Prius intermittently fail suddenly. This will affect either headlight, although, on occasion, both headlights unexpectedly failed while the car is in motion. The problem is temporarily fixed by turning the headlight off then on again. Several Prius owners describe this exact problem. They also describe that replacing the headlights themselves does not fix the problem.

The right side headlight turns off intermittently. I can make it work again by turning the light switch off, then on again. I have tried to get it fixed, but the problem will not replicate at the mechanics. Therefore, I cannot get it fixed. If it was the headlight, it would not turn back on. However, I believe my car has high intensity bulbs, so I am not sure.
