While driving on highway, felt a and heard a bump (no bumps in road) and lost most steering capabilities. After pulling to side of road. I noticed tires were pointed in different directions. After looking under the vehicle, I could see large rust holes in the frame and the rack was no longer connected to the frame. Toyota inspected the frame under recall in 2015 and said there were no problems and painted only the rear portion of the frame with an anti corrosion paint which has now also rusted away. I believe the frame should have been replaced under the original recall instead of covering with paint that did not do the job.
I've owned the truck for a year bought on Dec 2019 3rd owner. I see that mines not listed as recalled for frame rust but I'm not sure why when the gas tank looks like it going to fall off and seems only critical sections are severely rusted like the gas tank and where the rear shock absorber sits. I could only see these spots now because they are hard to spot places where the frame joins.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that after learning of a recall involving rust on similar vehicle's, he decided to inspect his vehicle to see if the vehicle was experiencing the same failure. The contact stated that he noticed that the subframe near the rear suspension had rusted through and needed to be replaced. The contact had not contacted the dealer or an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle would not be covered under the recall because neither the VIN nor the model year were included in the recall. The approximate failure mileage was 190,000.
Was taken to repair shop for check engine light. I was told that the rust was so bad on the frame that I could not safely drive it. Was informed by repair shop that they have had over 20 vehicles years 05-06 within the last year with frames falling apart like mine"? why hasn't anyone noticed this or done something? the vehicle has been garaged kept, all recalls performed, all maintenance remained up to date, only 109,000 miles and frame falling apart!! was taken to Toyota dealer in August and was made to believe it was only small hole.passed inspection in January 20020. There is no way this was not present for years!!! but Toyota never mentioned until August 2020, when they saw small hole in frame, but should have been removed from road!!!. so, why is Toyota allowing these vehicles to continue to be driven ? why are they not mentioning frame issues? what are they hiding?" I see that Toyota has had recalls for other vehicles except, by my understanding, 05-06 Toyota Tundra, for frame replacement! all the pictures I viewed online of other similar frame issues on these models matched mine exactly! so, there's a problem somewhere! please help!
My vehicle recently failed inspection due to frame rust in the rear and possibly in the front of the vehicle. I previously had taken the vehicle to a local Toyota dealer to inspect the frame during a recall notice. The dealership did not do anything to the vehicle. The vehicle has almost 196,000 miles and should last a lot longer. But it is useless now and the frame rust problems of these models is unacceptable. The frame should be able to last the duration of the vehicle and Toyota has known about this problem for a very long time.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that the subframe support that holds the front stabilizer bar fractured causing the vehicle to sway from side to side while driving. Hoselton Toyota located at 50 marsh rd, East rochester, NY 14445, was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 139,000.
Frame is rusting away in different areas. Cannot attach a tow hitch since the rust is making the whole tail end brittle. Don't know when the entire frame will be unsafe to drive. I bought this car recently but it was used up until 2016 in North states where there is a lot of snow and ice.
Handed down 2006 Tundra to my son, he took it in for small leak and the mechanic said frame was rusted so bad there were holes in it!! we had the "recall" work done in 2015. We were never offered a new frame, they said we only needed the spray. Now 5 yrs later we can't even let our son drive his own truck!! it has 230,000 miles. Still alot of miles left and the body has some minor blemishes but in good condition. Don't have any pictures right now, just found out about it. Called Toyota resolution line and they said there is nothing they can do!! I refuse to accept this bc we did what we were supposed to do and they aren't even living up to their own "fix"!! cannot afford a new frame for my son right now! need help or guidance with this!
Anti rust coating was applied in 2016 as part of a recall- coating was not properly applied and moisture got underneath. Now, 2020, most of the coating has peeled off, revealing a 3 inch hole in my frame and a comepletley broken cross member near the gas tank. This is unacceptable to me that royota would cover up this problem like this and not replace all frames. This is not safe. My truck runs amazing, and only has 105000 miles on it. I expect something to be done!
3 inch hole in frame near rear wheel, and cracked cross member. Vehicle only has 105000 miles on it and has never been in an accident. Just purchased used from dealership 6 months ago. Very disappointed in Toyota. Frame has been under coated and this still has happened.
I have a rotting frame even after the crc treatment was applied from Toyota. This was supposed to prevent the frame rust issue but it only locks in the moisture and causes more damage. Toyota will not honor the frame replacement due to this crc application even though it does not fix the problem. I'm sure there are many Toyota Tundra, Tacoma, and sequoias driving around with frames falling apart. This is a safety concern not only for the driver but also for other motorists.
Rocker panels under the doors rotted out very fast. The factory bed liner also caused premature rust holes to form in the box. Debris can now fall out of the box from these when in transit.
Frame rusted, Toyota will not replace. Never sent me inspection notice, they say I missed my opportunity. Not happy, disabled and only transportation. Covered for a certain amount of time, but was never notified.
Severe rust corrosion in one spot of frame on drivers side of vehicle. It was brought to my attention by maintenance mechanic and he brought me in to see it myself while the truck was up on the lift.
The frame on this 2006 Toyota Tundra has rusted to the point of making this vehicle unsafe to drive. This degradation has happened far sooner than the expected retirement age for this vehicle. Toyota has not included this frame as part of it's frame rot recall which applies to many other frames from similar years.
This vehicle had the frame recall done by a local dealer - Toyota of nashua in nashua, nh - and the dealer performed the undercoating remedy poorly, and not per the guidelines of the recall. Within a year the undercoating started flaking off, and I now have a 2-3" hole in the frame, caused by rust. Recall undercoating was done in 2014. Dealer is telling me there's nothing they can do, Toyota is telling me the same thing. They're letting me deal with my own rusted frame that they should be responsible for.

An independent mechanic discovered the rust upon inspecting the vehicle and warned the contact that it could lead to a potential safety defect. The contact spoke with waite Toyota (18406 us-11, watertown, NY 13601) and the manufacturer and was informed that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
2006 Toyota Tundra purchased new from Toyota dealership in central pa; one owner. Customer purchased dealer offered undercoating due to known climate conditions of central pa in order to prevent undercarriage corrosion. Same dealership (under new ownership) carried out corrosion inspection campaign in 2015; dealer conclusion-apply additional corrosion-resistant compound to frame (did they actually apply anything?). pa inspection at independent garage in 2019 failed for frame corrosion (but no perforations?). vehicle taken to place of purchase to repeat inspection; dealership also failed vehicle for pa inspection due to frame corrosion; suggested sending it to additional Toyota dealers for additional inspections and to call Toyota corporate. (note-failed areas and other inspection areas are now completely devoid of corrosion protection due to removal by inspection mechanics). Called Toyota Corp., they can't/won't help. Supervisor to call back. So far, Toyota will not rectify the issue. There are 100 year old Ford model T's on the road with frames that are perfectly healthy in pa, but a piece of junk made in the usa (which has been less than useless for the last 40 years), foreign owned Corp.,13 year Toyota is scrap!!! obsolescence and second class citizenship consumer products should be illegal and meant only for the billionaire class to experience! failure at 106,000 miles.
My 2006 Tundra has a hole in the frame due to rusting out which has made the passenger side sway bar to come detached from the frame. Toyota advised me this model year is not part of any recall for the known frame rust issue with Toyota trucks and refuses to assist in any way to address this issue.
