My 2006 VW Jetta has given me problems from day one. Luckily all were under warranty until now. My warranty recently expired and now I am having electrical issues. It started off with my sunroof opening by itself, then my trunk latch doesn’t work when the car is off or when the door is ajar, and my driver side window does not express up. In addition to all this which I assumed were of no significance, my doors wont lock and unlock by hitting the button on the driver side (which by the way poses a safety issue if i can’t get in and out of my car, esp. having a toddler in the back seat). Oh and not to mention last night my alarm started going off for no apparent reason. I have to leave doors unlocked otherwise the alarm will keep triggering. Oh and let’s not forget that this morning when i got in my car, my panel said that the hood of my car was open when indeed it was not so I tried opening and closing to see if censor would react but no.

So now I am driving my car with the panel telling me my hood is open and that annoying beeping noise as if my seat belt isn’t on is going off like crazy because the car think I am driving with an open hood. Well I called Midas in Palatine and spoke to a very helpful individual. He told me that what I needed was a driver side door harness and that this is a known issue with Volkswagen cars, however Volkswagen refuses to do something about it except collect $500 for every individual who has this problem. The guy told me he could order part from VW and fix but his aunt had the same problem and after complaining was able to get it fixed through VW for no charge.

After reviewing many blogs I've come up with about ten pages of complaints for the same exact problem I am having. NOT GOOD. I’m thankful for honest mechanics that says they don’t want to take my money but instead see if VW will pay for the repair since it is a known problem however there is no "TSB" on the problem. So where do I go from here? I certainly can’t afford $500 to repair this problem. Well after posting here, I will be writing my letter to VW sending certified addressed to Falk Beil, Executive Vice President Group Quality and Service and Jonathon Browning, President and CEO, Volkswagen of America. I’m quite sure these individuals are not driving a VW but if they were and this happened to them, they would get a new car in a heartbeat. I am not satisfied. My family was a firm believer in VW until they started screwing us all around. Maybe Toyota would be a better fit for our needs.
