2013 Passat tdi with 51K mileage, cel went on a few days ago so I was concerned and brought it to the dealership. After diagnostics run, I was told the adblue header unit had to be replaced because I had a faulty sensor. Was given estimate of $1200 to fix. Was told cost will not be covered at all. After doing research, it seems vws diesel cars are all experiencing this problem, mostly after the 3/36K warranty period has passed and then not helping owners with cost of this defect. Given that all these vehicles have a current buyback option due to dieselgate, I am appalled that VW is not offering any type of compensation for this apparent yet not declared defect that should really result in a full recall. I continue to hope for a positive resolution to this issue but am citing this complaint as I see numerous similar vehicles experiencing this issue and it needs broader attention than what it is getting from Volkswagen.

Internal high pressure fuel pump failure. Thankfully, my car was parked and idling at the time since my wife had just been on the highway. I began to hear a slight knocking sound, then a slight squeal like a belt makes, and then the car shut down. It would turn over, but would not restart. I had it towed to the local dealer and was advised that there was an internal high pressure fuel pump failure that would cost $6200 because the entire fuel system basically had to be replaced. Apparently, upon research, this has been a known problem since 2009. This could be a real safety issue particularly at highway speeds or at times when acceleration is necessary. My car is three (3) years old and has 85,000 miles.

Ad blue reductant tank failed. Thus making the emissions system not work properly. Part # 561-198-970-a is defective. The same failure occurred on my 2012 Passat within less than a month. I have a 2013 VW Passat tdi. The check engine light came on. The dealership stated the ad blue heater must be replaced. This will cost $1200. This website has been gathering data about this issue. The warranty expired only 5 months ago. This is outrageous.

On my 2013 VW Passat tdi, the glow plug light started to flash when driving car on 40mph road, the vehicle lost power (went into limp mode), but was able to get the vehicle home. Fault codes pulled were P0087(fuel rail / system pressure low). Later diagnosed as a failed high pressure fuel pump. After some quick research, I found this was a common problem among VW common rail tdi engines. (this will be a $5000 - $7000 dealer repair)

I bought this car new from my local VW dealer. At approximately 48,300 miles - adblue system throws a code. Code P205C meaning the ad blue heater is non functional. This part is connected with the emissions since it is suppose to reduce the nox emitted. I feel this is connected with the emission system and should fall under the emission warranty.

Mileage of the vehicle decreased to almost 8-10 miles per gallon, after the fix that they installed for a recall. Previously I used to get 37-39 miles per gallon on my Passat deisel but after this fix I am hardly getting 30 miles per gallon. The whole of me buying the diesel is to save gas. But after hearing about the scandal, I totally lost faith on VW and with the fix, I am not getting the mileage that they promised on the sticker price.

Redundant tank heater failure. Very common issue (to the point that there are several "how to" fix it yourself procedures and a "hack" to trick the mil light into thinking it is working. Even though it failed within the carb warranty period, VW refused to fix under carb warranty because a VW dealership did not diagnose it within the warranty period (it was 3rd party mechanic) and car is now well out of carb warranty. It is a very costly repair and an extremely common failure, to the point were there is a VW tsb on the part failing in the Passats and touregs. I have approached VW twice on the issue, but to no love from them. Car is still drivable since this part is not used in the climate that I drive it in, so I have not fixed it for a year and a half now.

The gas pedal randomly gets stuck...reported the issue to VW...not their issue because they can't seem to duplicate the issue!!! I have only had the car for 2 months...yes it's a 2013...but it was supposed to be certified pre-owned!!! this issue occurred typically while in motion...it would just rev up on it's own, but the last time it happened while in park!

2013 Passat tdi diesel lost power while driving is down a city street. Once I pulled off the road engine light and service now light were on. A catastrophic failure occurred in the high pressure fuel pump. Thus occurred in euless Texas. VW will not cover my indecent under a warranty extension. They will cover 2012 models my car was manufactured before July 2012 but has a 2013 listing. As of 12/17 no repair scheduled due to $6,000 cost.

Vehicle schedule for 40000 mile service. Engine warning light came on code P2196. Volkswagen did a computer update in January 2015 for 30000 mile service, 23N5 ECM software recall. Oxygen sensor (front) replaced was replaced by VW when I complained it should not have failed. The emission system is in question since the oxygen sensor is running rich. This year model should be added to recall for pollution system not function correctly. This model is diesel. Tdi

On or about September 1,2015 I was driving my Passat and the check engine light came on. I finally managed to get an appointment at the dealership to have it diagnosed on the 5th of Sept. They said it is a P202B adblue heater and repairs would be around $1500. Why is this heater system going bad after only 2 and a half years? it seems like a lot of people are having this happen to their Passats and the repair is way out of line for this new of a car. We bought this car new because we heard that it would last a good 300,000 miles. I want volkswagon to recall this faulty part and take care of this issue.

Vehicle was taken to the dealer due to unable to fill up with diesel. Pump nozzle acts as if the tank is full, using VW adapter or "angle" the nozzle results in diesel spraying out at the person operating the fuel pump. VW dealer found dirt obstructing the diesel vent tube off the filler neck, while all the factory fender lining in place. Extended warrantee contract declined claim, since it is not a defective tube, but rather defective design. Vent is not part of the "federal emission" and VW wants $1700 for new gas tank and $700 for labor. First occurrence of this problem was at 40K miles, at that time dealer "could not replicate the issue".

Driving on a country road with my wife and 2 young daughters, the car suddenly began misfiring and lost power. I was able to coast it to the side of the road. California highway patrol showed up shortly after and stopped to make sure we were alright. Fortunately, we had a cellular signal and we were able to contact a tow service. Unfortunately, the vehicle had to be towed >100miles (for $700) to the dealership. They determined that there was a failure of the high pressure fuel pump. They are sending the fuel out to a lab first to verify that I didn't put biodiesel in it; I didn't. they estimate that I will be without my vehicle for 7-14 days, depending on how badly the debris is inside the fuel line and engine. The dealership does not have a loaner, VW doesn't offer a rental and I'm on the hook for the tow service. I will be out of pocket over $1000 when all is said and done, all because of a component(s) that clearly has design flaws or quality issues. Assuming, VW confirms they will pay for the repair...which I'm still waiting on....updated 09/22/15 updated 3/23/2016 updated 11/15/2017

On 11/9/14 the turbo failed on my 2013 VW Passat with the tdi diesel engine. VW knows they are having a serious issue with their turbos on the tdi engine (europe currently has a class action law suit against them). In August I received a letter in the mail from VW extending my warranty on the turbo to 10 years/120000 miles. They are simply waiting for the turbos to fail rather than replacing them on all 2012 & 2013 Passats. This is a serious safety concern, when the turbo fails you loose all engine power (ie. GM ignition recall). This is an extremely dangerous position for VW to put its customers in who don't have the knowledge of what to do in a situation when you loose engine power at highway speeds. Mine did just that, it failed on the highway resulting in no power. I would like to see VW recall these turbos and replace them in all the affected cars before it causes a fatality.

While starting from a stop sign, vehicle seemed to have low power. Vehicle would accelerate, but very slowly. A few miles later, I had to stop for another car that had stopped to turn left into a driveway. When I attempt to accelerate after that car had turned, I had no power (vehicle was still running). I was able to coast to the side of the road, but a vehicle coming up from behind me had to brake quickly to avoid hitting my car from behind. I had the car towed to the dealer, which confirmed a failure of the turbocharger system and then replaced the turbocharger under warranty. Replacement of turbocharger appears to have fixed the problem.
