I was sitting at a stop light waiting to make a left turn when the electrical power steering randomly failed. This issue made it near impossible to turn the car and caused me to almost crash into a light pole when I tried to make the left turn. I then made an attempt to turn into a parking lot to get off the road almost causing me to wreck the car a second time. I have been told by multiple mechanics that this electrical power steering failure is not a common issue with newer vehicles. I want to submit this claim to make it known this make and model has this issue

Steering has felt "sticky" for about a week. It is difficult to turn the steering wheel at all, and it would get stuck in certain positions so I physically couldn't turn or change directions. The problem wasn't too bad at first, but then got extremely bad as of 08/07/2019. Steering was almost impossible, and the steering wheel would get stuck N almost every turn, making driving almost impossible, and very dangerous. As of 08/09/2019, the steering wheel is almost constantly stuck, and requires extreme force, or slamming on the brakes to turn or change directions at all. Even slight turns are difficult and dangerous. The car is now completely unsafe to drive, and has swerved off the road several times, and even scraped a divider because the steering wheel was locked into place and couldn't be corrected. These were all while driving, driving on the highway, steering was slightly easier. But that is where the crash with the divider happened. Driving on city streets was more difficult because there are more turns and they are sharper. This is now completely impossible. When the car is stationary, or in park, the steering wheel is locked in place and can't be turned.

The contact owns a 2016 Chrysler 300. While driving 20 mph, the steering wheel seized, which resulted in a front end collision. The contact stated that the power steering and air bag indicators illuminated. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The front end on the driver's side was damaged, but the vehicle was not destroyed. The contact sustained injuries to the right knee, chest, and lower back. The contact's wife struck her head on the passenger side window and sustained a back injury. Medical attention was required. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and repaired. The vehicle was not diagnosed at the time. The dealer was not contacted. The contact called the manufacturer and was informed that there were no recalls for the failure. The failure mileage was 30,000.
