While driving, the main hybrid battery made a funny noise and just stopped! Wouldn't move, wouldn't turn over, not even the inside electrical was functioning. The driver is a Rural Route Carrier and this occurred while driving down a main Highway. It simply stopped. Had there been a vehicle behind him, there most certainly would have been a serious crash with injuries. We had to drag it home.

We were told by the dealership that it would cost approx. $10,000 to replace the battery and pump. We only bought the care for $6,000!! We also have a severe problem with the Anti-Lock Brakes failing, they indicated that was another $8,000. So basically, we have an $18,000 paperweight sitter on our driveway. I just happened to run across a recall (14S19) for the very thing that is wrong with the car now; "THE MEC PUMP OVERHEATED AND COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN THE POWER TRAIN/PROPULSION SYSTEM, RESULTING IN A STALL-LIKE CONDITION INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

I was told that this was "fixed" in 2014, with a "Supplemental Repair" in 2015. Well, now we have another SUPPLEMENTAL REPAIR that should be paid by the Mercury manufacturer!! I have contacted both the dealership (not where it was purchased) and Mercury Customer Service and am patiently waiting for a call back from them. However, I expect that they will say there's "nothing they can do.

I already have a call in to legal council to assist me with this. I can't take it to small claims, as it is over the $5K threshold, but I truly believe that Mercury should replace the Hybrid Battery, MEC Pump and fix the Anti-Lock Brakes.

I know there are many other owners that had to have these fixed, but not enough to warrant a continued recall.
