Alero GL 63.4 V+

We bought the car in 2002 as a nice used vehicle with 45,000 miles on it. Noticed a few years later that the coolant light kept coming on and it smelled like burnt coolant in the engine. Took it in for a diagnosis and were told it wast he intake gasket. $979.00 later, we thought the problem was fixed. Not only did we get into a sh*tty car but a sh*tty mechanic as well. He had the car for days. Well, the problem never really seemed to be fixed and I was out the money so had to suck it up and drive it. No that the P.O.S. is paid for and I am stuck with it, I took it in for an oil change and found out AGAIN that the intake gasket has to be replaced AGAIN. Can't do it. We have had numerous problems with this car. Something has to be done. It isn't right for the consumer to pay more than the car is worth after you pay the whole note to just keep wasting money and If I could afford another car, well, I wouldn't be complaining! It's a good thing they do not make these cars anymore!

Alero GLS 3.4L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 114,500 miles

I bought this car new in July 2000 with 41 miles on it. I have had many problems with this car, but have either fixed them or lived with them. I guess it is the long history with the car, I was willing to live with its bad habits. Since buying the car 8 years ago, the following has happened: A/C fixed 4 times (twice under warranty), now the compressor is shot, Front rotors have required resurfacing twice, A/C switch replaced once due to first two fan speeds not working, that was 2 years ago and it is the same way again, horn broke 3 years ago, power window regulators broke in 3 of the 4 doors ($400 minimum to fix each door so only fixed drivers door and had back door windows bolted in place), dome light fell down from headliner, and now the latest is the manifold failure which caused the car to overheat severely resulting in major engine damage, all the coolant was dumped so there was no fluid to affect the temperature gauge, so overheating was not apparent until the noise and power loss... too late. So that is the breaking point and this car is being replaced and NOT fixed by me. The mechanic has told me several of the issues with my car are GM design flaws that were improved in later years of the car. Way to go GM.

Alero 3.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 150,000 miles

I have had to have so many things fixed on my wifes Alero. We bought the car new in 2000.And have had nothing but problems. Now its the intake gasket leaking coolant. Some of the other problems have been :water pump,3 window regulators and tracks, wheel bearing, radiator, hazard light switch, fan motor switch[still hadn't fixed this yet]fuel pump, tape player quit working right after warranty ran out along with every thing else except the fuel pump went out when we had only 2or3 miles left on the warranty.[what luck huh] This is all I can think of right now. One things for sure this will definitely be the last Oldsmobile we ever buy!should have bought Toyota or Nissan

Alero V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 93,000 miles

MY 2000 ALERO IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP AS WE SPEAK FOR THE 2ND INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET FAILURE. NEEDLESS TO SAY I AM NOT HAPPY. IT HAS 93,000 MILES ON IT AND THIS HAPPENED A COUPLE YEARS AGO. I REALLY LIKED THIS CAR BUT NOW THAT I TALLY UP ALL THE REPAIRS OVER THE LAST 7 YEARS THEY WERE PRETTY SIGNIFICANT. IF ANYONE HAS ANY INFO ABOUT A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST GM, I WOULD LOVE TO SEE IT POSTED HERE. I DON'T THINK ANYONE SHOULD HAVE TO PUT UP WITH THIS ISSUE WHEN THE BIG CAR COMPANIES KNOW ABOUT IT. WHY ARE WE USING DEX COOLANT WITH PLASTIC GASKETS AND WHY ARE WE USING PLASTIC GASKETS, (if that is true). WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT AND WASTE OF HARD EARNED MONEY. I DONT KNOW IF I WILL BUY AMERICAN WHEN I GET MY NEXT CAR.
