Transmission failure at 74,912 miles which requires replacement of the Chrysler Grand Voyager's transmission at a cost of $1800. The transmission in my 1990 Grand Voyager also failed. The cost of that repair was paid by Chrysler through a recall. Chrysler has not offered to contribute to the cost of the 1995 Grand Voyager transmission repair. In addition, we have contacted two Chrysler dealers regarding repair of the vehicle and they gave conflicting stories of how the transmission should be repaired and the frequency of transmission failures in Grand Voyager. Under the conditions I drive, I believe the Grand Voyager transmission should last over 100,000 miles. I am disappointed that Chrysler does not build a reliable transmission for the Grand Voyager. Will not go into reverse or shift into high gear when cold. When does shift into reverse, car lunges backwards suddenly. Problem ongoing for 2 years. Works great after car is warmed up. Have had garages check it out and state they don't believe it is a transmission problem but will rebuild if I want to. Have changed transmission fluid and oil routinely.

Voyager

A vibration consistent with the vehicle's speed (similar to a defective wheel bearing) was detected prior to failure. The transmission locked up, and all fluid was lost throughout the engine compartment. This presented a potentially serious safety hazard to the driver, since this occured during the morning rush hour commute in the center lane of the freeway. The report from the service center indicated that the transmission was totally destroyed (very expensive repair!).
