The car over heats rapidly. I drove less than two miles and it was red lining, and the display starts chiming telling me to turn off AC to protect the engine. This has happened more than once. It happened on 4/18 and again on 4/21, both times leaving me stranded for over an hour until the car cooled enough to be able to limp it home. I carry water in the car, but it's a PITA to put it in the over flow and radiator, and I still have to wait an hour or more before I can get on the road again. The overflow was low, but we can't find a leak. The radiator was replaced less than a year ago.

I had the recall work done where they replaced the front valve cover and gasket just a few months ago, and this started happening within a couple of weeks. We didn't correlate the two at the time, but my mechanic said that the gasket has disintegrated, and there was black flakes in the fluid in the system, including the radiator.

Update from May 22, 2017: My mechanic found the system was clogged with black gunk up from a gasket deteriorating. It was the gasket that was replaced by the dealership a few months ago due to a warranty issue. Parts of the system were so clogged he had to dig the gunk out of the system. The car runs cooler now, and no more red lining.
