On Sept 17, 2021, while driving at about 35 mph, my 2015 Scion FR-S started making a loud knocking noise. Upon parking and restarting engine the knocking and clicking noise became even louder and will not stop (see video). There were no check engine or oil lights on. The car started to blow black smoke, clanging, shaking and is not able to accelerate to a high speed. The car and oil were always regularly checked and maintained, and high-performance gas was always used. Once it was taken to the mechanic, they diagnosed it as valve failure and said it needed a new engine. I had two Toyota evaluations and one at a smaller auto repair center, all three came back as valve and engine failure. They want $9,000 to replace it with a used engine with only a 6mo warranty. I bought the car December 2019, the dealer said no warranty.

Dealer refuses to fix it, keeps saying Toyota Corp won't honor a warranty. Dealer did last oil change, spun rod, knock, blamed driver for oil starvation (but all oil changes, maintenance is up to date, stock) bigger issue is FA20 BOXER ENGINES, oil starvation is a major issue in these cars and Toyota since Scion is no longer needs to own up like Subaru did and do a new TSB 7500 miles for oil changes full synthetic, years 2012-2014 (engines built) are more prone. BEWARE, dealers in Orlando will not honor your warranty violating Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act (P.L. 93-637)
