Hate that I gotta do oil changes so frequently. Sometimes I don't even know it's almost empty. I gotta go get a quart of oil just to be able to make it to the dealership to see what to do about it.

My problem started at just about 80,000 miles but it got worse and at 100,000 miles I started watching as sometimes there was no oil on the dip stick when I checked it, I then started checking it every few weeks and was constantly adding oil, at about 130,000 miles I got the notice of a oil consumption problem from toyota and brought the car in they did a test and at 1,200 miles they told me it only used about 1/2 a quart of oil and that is normal ?????

At 150,000 miles the oil consumption was worse and brought it in again and another test but they told me that the test is no good after 150,000 miles but will test it this last time well it was just under a quart low after 1,200 miles and was told the cut off it 1 quart and I did not qualify. WOW

I called the head office to complain and they told me we understand but nothing we can do if you choose to pick another car company the next time you buy a car we understand.

I owned 4 Toyotas in my life time with the last one being a Lexus, which will be the last Toyota me or my family ever buys again. I have a Chevy pick up since new, 1999 and I never have to add oil it now has 260,000 miles on it. Guess what my next make will be!!!!!!

A quart of oil every 500 miles is crazy. I read where 2009 model was not included in extended warranty coverage. I am the proof.

My 2009 Scion TC has been burning oil due to faulty construction. Toyota does not want to fix the problem because they say the car is not under warranty anymore. I have consulted with four different mechanics who tell me that this is a common problem and the oil is being consumed due to faulty construction. I am having to add 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles which is ridiculous. Toyota released a technical service bulletin so they are aware of the problem. Toyota does not want to recall the vehicle due to the cost of the repairs which is over $3,000. When I went to the dealer they refused to give me an exact diagnosis for my car, but offered to replace the pistons and rings for over $3,000. The dealer also wrote on the invoice that I claimed the car was leaking oil which was untrue because I specifically said the car was burning oil internally. The dealer also topped off my oil and tried to hide the problem the first time I went to them.

Toyota should take responsibility and recall the engine to fix the problem. If they do not fix the problem I will never buy another Toyota vehicle again and will advise everyone I know to not buy Toyota's!

Toyota/Scion well aware of this issue and sent out technical service bulletins to its service departments and also (I believe) redesigned pistons in this engine. Many car models and years affected. . Won't cover cost of repair if out of warranty, but knew of issue in 2011 and did not notify car owners.... No recall, no notices/letters to vehicle owners. It is a $3000. repair!

They are not standing behind their product and are passing the cost of their faulty design onto their buyers. I believe there may be an investigation going on for a possible class action suit.
