when autopilot is on, engine operates at high rpm

The way that auto pilot settings, increases fuel consumption. The engine operates at high rps in order to keep the set speed. When you follow a car, auto pilot maintains same speed with the front car, if the car increase its speed and the set point is higher, the car operates agressive in order to reach speed set point. This function consumes petrol, other cars operate more linearly.
