During darkness there is no indication that the night time headlamps are in the off position (because the dashboard lights are on and daytime lamps illuminate the road to some extent). The unsafe consequence is that by not turning on the night time headlamps in darkness, the 2001 Volvo S80 operates void of tail lamp illumination.my wife is the primary driver of our Volvo. She combats the problem by leaving the night time headlamps on at all times. When I drive the Volvo, I have a habit of turning the lights off after use. Many times, my wife has forgotten to turn the night time headlamps back on in darkness and has been in harms way as she drives void of tail lamp illumination in darkness! this is a safety issue. This tail lamp problem which appears to be a careless oversight by the design team. This is a problem which should be addressed and retrofitted to the current vehicles affected immediately.
