I started to smell gas again in mid December 2014. The next day the smell was gone and did not reappear over the next week, when I smelt it again. Then it disappeared, again. I took it to the dealer and was told the tank was leaking again. He is beyond explanation on why the sealant didn't work. So he suggested it may be because the car had a plastic tank installed from the dealer. I have since come to learn that some have metal tanks and some plastic. The installation was this week so no feed back on its success just yet.

Update from Feb 27, 2015: The installation of the used tank did not take place. As a result of reviewing other Volvo owners that have experienced the same fuel tank leak at a Volvo owners web site I instructed the mechanic not to install a new tank. When I picked up the car I wanted to be shown where the leak was in my tank and was told it was in the nipple of one of two valve opening. The spot where others have even photoed the leak should be and unknown to the mechanic.

On 2/26/15, following the advice of another owner, I sent an email to the main customer service department at Volvo USA and I'm awaiting a response:

I purchased my pre-owned Volvo from the Manhattan, NYC Dealership that has since closed. The closet one to me now would be the Bay Ridge office that I have never visited. The problem is my fuel tank has been leaking. I as not aware of a 2011 recall I found referenced while looking into this leak among other owners.

However, I am contacting the main office because I would like to know how do I proceed from there to have this serious issue addressed in a timely manor.

Please advise at your earliest convenience."
