Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

My power steering went out, I was told no recall for 2007 model. I took it to the weisner GM dealership and paid $721.03 to have steering motor and module replaced on 08/21/14. I picked the car up at 5:30pm the same day, as soon as I started home I knew something was wrong. I immediately called but the service manager, [xxx], had left. I left him a voicemail. He called me the next morning and left me a voicemail explaining that GM was not responsible for everything that could be wrong with my car, rudely! I called him back and he again started a rant, I asked him to please listen to me, the customer. He said the earliest he could get my car in will be 08/25/14. On Friday I drove my car for work, I am a courier. In the afternoon around 3:30 while I was making a turn the chimes sounded and my power steering went out again! I called him, [xxx], back and told him that I was in a turn at the time and almost hit a barrier. He said he could not do anything until he gets the car back. I told him I tried to get the car back to him but he refused and said he didn't have any time until Monday, 08/25. I have explained to him, from the beginning, that I am a courier and am on the road at least 6 hours/day and that I really feel this is a safety issue and that I was afraid of having a wreck but I cannot afford not to work since my husband passed away 2 months ago. He said he had no loaner cars. I called the 866 number for customer care and spoke with kelsey who opened a ticket and escalated it. I should hear something on Monday, I hope. I do not think any repairs were done to steering...lack of communication" management" I just don't know. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

While driving on numerous occasions over the last two years under many different conditions on and off the freeway, my steering wheel has suddenly started to shimmy back and forth as the "power steering" warning appeared on the dash console and an alarm pings out three times in rapid succession. It is obvious that there is a loss of power steering during these occasions as I fight the steering wheel to ensure control of the car's direction. The condition persists still two years down the road. Too expensive to fix.

I purchased my 07 Chevrolet Malibu in Feb 2007. The power steering problem started last summer! the steering wheel is extremely hard to turn and it doesn't matter if I'm parking or turning onto a street. I have to reset the steering by turning the car off/on. In may of this year, I went to the er with chest pain and was diagnosed with a pulled muscle in my chest. I took my car to a mechanic in June, and was quoted $600 to replace the power steering. It amazes me that 2004-2006, and 2008 were recalled but not 2007. This is not fair at all. Please recall this part because I can't afford to fix this car!

A couple of issues with this car!!! first off, the latest recall done in 2014 with the brake lights not illuminating when pedal pressed but did when pedal wasn't depressed.after calling and going to multiple GM dealers, I had to research how to fix the problem and tell the GM dealer how! the issue is starting to act up again now. Starts off with the gear shift being nearly impossible to pull out of park and the cruise control acting, now a recall? second. The seering wheel has on 2 occasions jerked violently to one side then back and forth on it's own...while driving! almost as if the vehicle looses all power/dash lights come on it then jerks and makes a weird nose before it flips upside down and locks up! my 15 year old niece (who has had her permit 3 months) was driving one of the times! third - the airbag light randomly comes on / goes off when someone is sitting in the seat. I think I' should get all my $ back from the times I took my car in to find out "what the problem was" and had fixed (temporarily apparently) and now recalls are coming! honestly - there are enough things to worry about while driving (drunks, bad drivers, blow outs etc.) it's unsettling to have "known" issues with your vehicle but these companies will not fix!

I received a recall #13036 in the mail however my car has been unsafe to drive since June 2014 due to the steering wheel being uncontrollable it jerks to the right and to the left randomly it vibrates to the right and left when it is in park, I am not a mechanic but I don't think this has any thing to do with the brakes and I have observed many complaints such as mine from other people, call line people tell me to take it in and have a diagnostic run on it I have not been able to work for the last 2 months I just want my car fixed and this is some sort of faulty problem people are just more cautious due to all the recalls. Please follow up on mine and other steering problems. I have previously sent this problem to you 6/2014.

My car started pulling to the left and I was unable to control the steering wheel I pulled over checked my tires and when I got back into the car the steering wheel was turning back and forth on it's own while in park, I drove it home the whole time it pulled to the left and I was unable to control the steering I have been unable to drive it since I have read many complaints about the same problems from other people I think it would be a good idea to recall these automobile before some else has an accident.

Steering wheel locked up and I was unable to make a turn. I had to brake sudden so as to not run into the back of another car. Message came across radio saying power steering. I pulled the car over with alot of difficulty and called my husband to come to see if we needed a tow. When he arrived and started car it worked fine. We called our dealer as we purchased the vehicle only 4 days prior to this and they stated that they would investigate as there was currently no recalls for this year. I am worried about driving the vehicle now since this may happen again and since reading other comments from others that this is apparently an issue that GM is aware of and not correcting.

It's happened 3 times, driving various speeds the steering locks up. First time I was making a right turn and the car instantly locked up. I put the car in park and powered car off then started it back up it was fine. Second time about 3 months after the first time went threw a stop light started up a hill and the dash lights all flicker the radio powered off and the seat belt noise went off 2 or 3 times and the car locked up. I parked the car powered it off. Started it again it was fine. Last time it happened I was at a stop light making a right turn and again the steering locked up and I had to park my car and power it off on a main street where it's very busy. I started it again and it was fine this last time was on July 15, 2014. This car with all the recalls I feel is a death trap.

The power steering assist suddenly quit several times while driving; both at freeway speed and while exiting the freeway at about 15 mph. When the power steering fails the steering column would make a clicking sound, sometimes there would be a chime and the battery light indicator on the dash. Only one time the center console displayed "power steering." We narrowly avoided a crash while going around a curve in the freeway. The loss of power assist required exerting more force than normal to avoid colliding with the divider. When the power steering re-engaged without warning we swerved towards a truck in the adjacent lane. We took it to the nearest dealer who said it's a faulty ignition coil causing a short in the power steering. Cost quoted was $500 to fix in addition to $450 for the shifter cable that also went out.

The steering wheel on my 2007 Malibu ls suddenly started jerking both to the left and right as I was driving down a residential road going about 30 mph. As I turned right, the car was harder to turn as the steering wheel was still jerking and moving the whole car in several degrees further than I moved it and then jerked in the opposite direction. As I was at a red light and my foot was on the brake, I removed my hands from the steering wheel and it was moving on its own left and right. About 3 minutes later the warning came on my radio indicator. I took the car in to get checked and was told the power steering motor was out and so was the steering angle sensor and that with parts, labor and tax it would cost $1,478.69 to fix at the dealership where I purchased.

This incident report should actually count as three complaints, since the power steering failure on this car has happened three times. The first time was on 8/13/10, mileage 14950. The second time was on 3/17/11, mileage 18001. The third time was yesterday, 6/2/14, mileage 49852, this is getting to be ridiculous that I keep having to replace the power steering unit on this vehicle. Counting the original, this will be the fourth power steering unit. When the pump fails, all driveability is lost, and the car becomes impossible to steer. Luckily, in two of the incidents, I was driving a speed of around 35mph. Yesterday's failure happened in our driveway. My wife was getting ready to go to denver, and was to be driving on I-25. Now I'm not sure what would have happened if the failure happened on the interstate, but I now have absolutely not confidence that this 2007 Malibu is safe to drive on the road. GM should offer free replacement of the power steering units, in these cars, for the life of the vehicle. Averaging a life of 12K miles for the unit is totally unacceptable. I would love if the CEO of GM, [xxx], would take this car off my hands for about a month, and use it to drive her family around. When I would turn a corner the steering wheel would vibrate. I took it to get a wheel alignment thinking that was the problem. As time went by it got harder to steer, the steering wheel would jerk. It was getting so hard to drive I was afraid to take it anywhere.I had to go to olympia for supplies. I was driving from my home in grapeview to olympia and the wheel pulled so violent on hwy 101 I was afraid I would drive into another was mostly jerking to the right so I stayed in the right lane so I wouldn't hit another car but just go off the hwy. It pulled so fast and hard it hurt my wrists. I would have called for a tow but didn't have my cell phone. I was closer to olympia than home so I made the decision to go there. I drove it to the titis-will Chevrolet in olympia and they advised me to leave it there because it was too dangerous to drive. And they repaired it a few days later. I read on the internet others were having the same problem but Chevrolet company wouldn't help them.
